Riders between the ages of 2 and 85 are experiencing the historic communities along the canal, enjoying the summertime weather in New York.

"Probably the most impressive (part) is the canal itself and the sheer beauty of it," said cyclist Mark Thompson of Virginia. "(Just) thinking about years ago, the number of people involved in constructing it, and how beautifully it's maintained."

Cyclists from 37 states are traveling 40 to 60 miles per day along the canal for the venture, which is set to be complete by next Monday.
