The OXO Good Grips Simple Stainless Steel Pineapple Corer & Slicer preps a whole pineapple quickly and easily. Simply slice off the top of a fresh pineapple and twist the Slicer onto the exposed fruit to create perfect pineapple rings. The ratcheting design makes it easy to core and slice pineapples quickly without having to constantly readjust your grip. Helpful measurement markings on the Slicer determine your pineapple’s height—this allows you to stop before piercing the bottom of the pineapple so you have an intact shell to fill with a festive fruit salad or cocktails. The turning knob features a soft, comfortable, non-slip grip and separates from the shaft for thorough cleaning. The sharp, stainless steel blade accommodates most pineapple sizes. We purchased this to make pineapple carving easy. I was tired of constantly trying to trim pineapples.
Now, I can get a pineapple sliced and cored in about 60 seconds! It really works well. We've had it for about 9 months had have probably carved over 2-dozen pineapples. We typically go through 1 to 2 pineapples per week now that we have the OXO Good Grips slicer.

You just slice the top off, position the slicer on the top and then turn it (and use the ratchet to make it easier). In about 60 seconds, you have a cored, sliced pineapple.

I would highly recommend this item if you like pineapple. We find we are eating more of it since we have it because it is so easy to slice. Also, pineapples need to be sliced after you get them home from the store or they will quickly turn on you and rot. This device stops us from procrastinating since it is such a quick and easy slicing process.

You do need some hand strength to get it started though.

I would not recommend the plastic versions of this that I have seen in a few stores. Having the steel blade and the ratcheting function is extremely helpful. I can't imagine the plastic blade lasting or being as effective at slicing as the steel one from OXO.

Pros:
Slices and cores pineapples in about 60 seconds
Makes uniform circle slices without the core
Very easy to use
Easy cleanup

Cons:
You need decent hand strength to hold the pineapple and turn the blade when you first start it. Once you get it started though, it is extremely easy to slice through the rest of the pineapple. I have no issue with it and neither does my wife. It could be a challenge for an elderly person with arthritis in their hands, but I don't know.

We purchased 3 more of them for gifts for friends (all women) and they all like it use it frequently.

Very handy and easy to use. Yes it does leave some pineapple flesh behind but that is easily remedied. Pineapples are never easy to peel without picking up some of the "eyes" but this tool makes it faster to get the whole job done. The ratcheting system is also nice to have so you do not have to twist back and forth. Just let the tool do the work. The cutting surfaces are very sharp. I keep it inside an 8 ounce deli style container to keep the blades covered in the storage drawer and prevent injuries. The nadle is nice and wide making for a comfortable, safe grip

I think it is important to do a few things to do the job correctly:

1- once you cut the pineapple top make sure you measure the height by placing the tool alongside the pineapple. This ensures you get the tool to the bottom without going too far or not far enough
2- let the tool do the job. The turning motion allows the cutting surfaces to screw down the pineapple. It is not necessary to push down except at the very beginning to get it started. Pushing down too hard squeezes the flesh and gets juice all over
3 before removing the flesh, drain the cut pineapple into a bowl or container so that juice does not spill and make a mess
4- when you remove the cut flesh use a knife to cut down the flesh so it falls off the tool (unless you want complete circles which means you have to "unscrew" the tool and you'll have juice all over
5- cut the leftover pineapple sides into slices about 1" wide and "filet" the flesh off the cut slices. This is almost mandatory otherwise you will waste a lot of the fruit
