From low heat to ultra high heat this torch does it all. It lights easily with the trigger which can be locked open. It is solid, well built and as an added bonus is built in my home State. Highly recommended.

This is what I'd consider the ideal torch. I primarily use this for 4th of July to light fireworks. There is not a better tool for the job, bar none. I've used every kind of ligher, punks, and even road flares. It's a large powerful flame that instantly ignites when you pull the trigger, and instantly goes out when you release the trigger. You can adjust the flame from a decent size to quite powerful(for a blow torch). It is well constructed, heavy but not overly so, and withstand abuse very well. It's even been contaminated with a lot of sand at the beach several times and once you blow it out it is perfectly fine. I've only used this torch for about 13 months, but it still works as well as day one.

Lots of power for soldering and brazing as well, but I'll be honest this is my fireworks torch. It's very efficient, one propane canister can light hours worth of fireworks because it only uses fuel when you are holding the trigger, which isn't long since lighting even the largest fuses or sparklers is a breeze.

I've also used it to sear meat after sous vide but I have a much more powerful tool better suited for that job (it's a huge flame that's not as concentrated), but this is 10x better than your standard butane culinary torch.

I got into sous vide cooking big-time, so I needed a torch for searing steaks and thicker fish filets like salmon. I tried a cheap model that was mostly plastic with fair-to-middling results, then pulled the trigger and grabbed this unit while it was on sale.

Wow. It's made almost entirely of steel, and it feels substantial and sturdy in your hands. It's thoughtfully designed and incredibly easy to use, too. Screw a small propane canister into the base and you're ready to roll. The flame auto-ignites with a gentle push on the protruding round button, and you instantly get an angry, hissing blue flame--just what the doctor ordered if you're looking to sear meat. The cheaper model I tried struggled to achieve even a moderately blue flame, but the Bernzomatic flame is dazzling blue--and A LOT hotter. You can quickly achieve results that would take 4 times as long with a cheaper model. Fat pockets shrivel and shrink before your eyes--and you can get a thick, crisp crust on both sides of your steak in about a minute total. Best of all, since the flame is so hot and concentrated, you don't need to worry about fuel contamination affecting your meals. Keep the torch head several inches above your food and you should have no issues.

Some claim you need an additional Searzall add-on for ideal meat searing performance. That simply isn't true. The Searzall merely disperses the flame over a larger surface area. Keep the Bernzomatic torch moving and you'll get the same or better results without that pricey addition.

Highly recommended for cooking. This thing is a game-changer if you're a sous vide fan.
