First off the material and build quality is superb. I love the saftey switch feature and the large fuel window. I use this torch for camping mainly for lighting charcoal and it never fails. Its quick, powerful and it beats using a regular lighter or matches. The flame is strong and wind resistant and gets the job done everytime plus it's not bad looking.

The review will cover 2 aspects of my experience with JO CHEF. The first is the product itself, while the second is about the customer service. The product is very nice, and easy to use. Just make sure you use the right tip to fill it up. I would recommend using the JO CHEF butane fuel so you won't have an issue with refilling. Now , to the more pleasrable experiance . Upon receiving my unit, there was an email from the company asking about my experience. Unfortunately I believed that the unit that was sent to me was faulty (happens with any product). When i mentioned that in my reply and how frustrated I was getting the torch to work , I received the most apologetic reply and an offer to send me a new torch , free of charge and I wouldn't need to send the old one back. Few days and it was delivered . The unit worked amazingly . Bottom line . As there will always be many torches in the market , I doubt that any one will top JO CHEF customer service and their resilient effort to keep their clients satisfied and happy. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED ...

1) The gas knob has no safety lock, so it can be releasing butane if it is moved out of the off position accidentally. That is unlikely to happen under normal usage, but it is still a possibility.
2) The directions could be clearer. To fill, the plastic base must be removed. It has a tiny hole in it that is too small for the butane nozzle to properly fit, so that is very misleading. The base comes off and goes right back on very easily though.
3) There was no silicone mat included as was advertised. Same for any reference to a downloadable recipe book. Nothing I would really care about anyway, but the product description should be updated.
4) I have no clue how/if the fuel gage works. Again, directions are quite unclear.

The control range on the flame is fairly limited but you can get the flame down around 50% without going out.

I returned another brand torch because it would dump butane during use when you tipped it (like to flame crème brûlée). This does not have that problem. Sure, watching a fireball flareup can be fun, but not when it's scorching your dessert. So this torch is a keeper as it does not have this safety issue.

So, don't let my negative comments deter you from buying it. It is, overall, safe and it performs as expected.

The torch itself is awesome. It's sturdy and doesn't feel cheap. When compared to my neighbor's torch, the flame on the Jo Chef looks strong and beautiful, while his looks limpy and weak.

Problem is the refueling. When I first got the torch, I wasted about half the fuel just trying to get it in there. I tried all angles and only when I started getting fuel in there, was I able to see the fuel meter thing inside.

Everyime i went to refuel it, I definitely wasted more gas than I could get in. I stopped dabbing for a while.

Re upped and thought I'd try again. Went to refill and forgot how to do it, again, because I wasted gas, again. I actually bought this item months ago but came back to find out how to properly refill this thing.

I am going to also try another butane as suggested by someone else in the reviews because the Zippo nozzle looked a bit too big for the Jo Chef refill nozzle.

Edit...... Update....

Bought the colbiri butane and held the torch completely horizontal and when I have them put together, I push them together forcefully, and the torch gets filled up without as much loss as before.

My final opinion is that I wish the refueling was still a bit easier, and the fuel meter inside could be more visible. The torch itself flame and operation otherwise are 5 stars and nice for what I need it for, which is not making creme brulee.

Edit again for 2019. Tried to refill it and used half a bottle of the colbiri I bought and no gas made it inside. I probably got a lemon and didn't even know since I saw others post of similar issues.

So this torch used to be much cheaper -_-, but i think so far, its worth the money I paid for it. I find the window to see how fuelled the torch is to be confusing. I see almost nothing in there all the time, and it barely has any liquid in it yet it can work for awhile... so thats weird. I do find its high heat, the flame length as mentioned was great. Its fire, idk, its good.
