Likes: the smoothie cups and the small 8oz blender cups work with the same cup adapter, which for once makes a few accessories from the newest version (Ascent series) compatible with all of our older 4-prong rubber on steel base models (as long as your drive is the 12-tooth splined version and not one of the vintage hex drive models - though if you're an old-timer, someone even fashioned an adapter for thos to fit the splined accessories once upon a time). Same super-sharp blades (warning for parents teaching kids) and that explains the kind of over-sized safety design of the adapter. And no, don't do hot drinks, like making champurrado for 1 in these - heated liquids will blow out the silicon gasket seal and you'll end up with mess - regular pitcher containers for those.
Dislikes: having threads on a container, means switching from the adapter to either the cups' storage lids, or the smoothie pourer lids requires some clean-up wiping of the cups' threads or you'll leak. Don't over-tighten them unless you've got a 5-inch jar opener handy. The adapter has holes drilled in the bottom for a non-stated safety reason (otherwise we'd all be tempted to use the adapter as a make-shift 1/2 size blender bowl and stick a plate across the top to cover it - don't do it.) The "remember it after doing it once" reason is that if you do ignore the advice and do something to build up pressure in the sealed cup and adapter and the gasket gives, the mess goes straight down the sides of your Vitamix to have to clean up even more later.
Those who have had them in the past (or even visited a Jamba juice and noticed why theirs have a plastic noise box over every one of them) remember the original models used an electric chainsaw motor. These really were designed around restaurants and not quiet home kitchens. So they clean up well, and aside from the cups, which cannot be completely disassembled and sanitized because of the double-wall seal (thus no NSF certification for restaurant use), these are made for a lifetime of use. No microwaving because of the double-wall design for one, and 2 on the 8oz cups there are magnets used by the Ascend series to detect when the container is mounted (another safety-related thing.) They work as designed, give more flexibility to your lifetime Vitamix appliance (mine's a Total Nutrition Center model) and are useful for smaller quantity blending (though, I guess you either wash a big container, lid, and the tamper, or are washing the cup adapter, and later the cup and lid - not exactly a time-savings.) And the Blade Scraper is a long-handled silcon 90-degree squeegee whose shape was designed to fit the curved contours of the smoothie cups, along with cleaning under the blades.) A nice to have accessory if you like getting the last drops back out of the smoothie containers - they have 2 strengthening columns on the interiors of the cups, so they're not simple cylindrical shapes inside - the scraper works perfectly for getting around those 2 things.
Blends quickly. Easy to clean the base after making a smoothie. Very good product and highly recommended if you make smoothies or blend drinks.
The design of this adapter seems odd, with what looks like a container being attached to the adapter, of which you actually install the blending cups into while it's upside-down. It took me a while to figure out why they did this. I believe it was for safety. If they did not have the outer container on the adapter then you could potentially install the adapter on the base and run it without a cup being installed!... or if the cup somehow came loose it could be very dangerous. That is my best guess as to why the outer container was added to the adapter base. In addition, the Ascent series cups and bowls have magnetic strips installed at the connection point to signal that a cup or bowl is installed to a digital type base, in this way they can prevent the base from running if there is no cup or bowl installed. Of course my old 5200 series does not have any sort of safety mechanism to prevent this.
What is not ideal?
1. It is awkward to install the cups on the adapter with the outer container part there, but not too bad. If you use the Ascent bowls it is much more awkward because the bowls are so much shorter and down in the container, making them hard to install and remove, especially if you have large hands.
2. As others have stated, the shape of the cups narrows so large chunks of material can get jammed high up in the cup and not get blended.
3. Cleaning the adapter is difficult because the blade and dirty areas are in tight proximity to the outer container housing that is part of the adapter. You also cannot just dump soapy water in there and run the blender, because the adapters container housing has holes at the base to drain out, ie it does not hold liquid in itself, nor does it have a lid anyway.
4. I suspect some people will have issues with this setup leaking. It would not be hard to get food material between the rubber seal on the adapter and the cup/bowl mating surfaces, thus likely causing a leak. In fact, if you install a cup or bowl to blend and then remove it from the adapter and then place the adapter right side up again, it's almost certain food contaminate will drip onto that mating seal surface, so if a cup or bowl is reinstalled without first cleaning it's likely to leak. I also found I had to use a lot of force to tighten the cups/bowls so they would not leak. A lot of pressure is created inside the cup/bowls when blending, not to mention expansion due to the heat being generated inside the cups/bowls. I have very strong hands and arms and the force needed to install and remove the cups/bowls from the adapter such that they would not leak was quite tight and difficult to remove afterward. People without as much strength might find it difficult to get it tight enough to stop leaking... and/or then find it very hard to remove the cups/bowls from the adapter.
5. As with most Vitamix stuff, it's quite expensive! I got these things on good sales and it was $130 for the adapter and bowls. I could have bought a "Tribest Personal Blender PB-250", or similar, for half the price without a lot of the above mentioned issues.
For myself, I like the high quality Vitamix build and materials, and not having multiple blenders for slightly different purposes, so it's still worth it for me, but that's a personal choice.

This appliance is powerful, solid, high quality, quieter than when using the normal container. I find it much easier to clean than the big container.
Following the "recipe" provided, i.e putting in the container the ingredients in the order and the quantity recommended and pouring the right amount of liquid are important factors to a great smoothie!
I am now hoping the seals around the cup and the base of the blender will be strong and effective enough to last for a very long time.

Es costoso pero se nota la calidad del material (a mí parecer es aún mejor que el vaso incluido en la Vitamix), es súper fácil de usar y práctico; la tapa cierra muy bien y no tiene fugas
