Maya-Camille Broussard is the chef-owner of the Chicago-based bakery Justice of the Pies and the star of the Netflix show Bake Squad. 


Justice of the Pies, which specializes in sweet and savory pies, quiches and tarts, was founded in 2014 in memory of her late father, Stephen J. Broussard. Steve was a criminal defense attorney with a deep love for anything made in a crust. Justice of the Pies was created to celebrate his love for pies and to honor his belief that people deserve second chances.

Broussard formed the I KNEAD LOVE Workshop, a culinary enrichment program designed to contribute to the fight against food insecurities for youths in grades 5th-8th, residing in lower-income communities that may not have access to healthy food options. Students learn valuable kitchen skills, how to tap into creativity, and the importance of nutrition. 

Maya-Camille, who is a member of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community, strives to impact the world in a meaningful and positive way. Maya-Camille is a 2022 James Beard Award finalist for Outstanding Baker.

This is a great cookbook & it’s filled with more than pie recipes! I love the mini-biographies for influential and inspirational people. Multicultural influences all throughout this beautifully written book!There are recipes for “extras,” for toppings & crusts, sweet & savory dishes! I recommend this book as a gift to yourself and others!!!

I am an avid fan of Ms Broussard’s pies. I don’t live nearby so I have to use Goldbelly to place orders. I’ve taken some of her pandemic cooking classes and I still dream about her biscuit recipe. Imagine my delight when saw a new recipe for biscuits in this book, Goat Cheese + Chive.

I shouldn’t be surprised at the creativity oozing out of this cookbook, as her flavor combinations are always fantastically unique. Salted Caramel peach pie, what!? Strawberry Basil Key Lime, Sweet Potato Praline…the list goes on.

I’m so excited that she’s shared so many of her infamously fabulous recipes with us in this book. I can’t wait to try some of the savory recipes too. I haven’t tried those as often. Quiche is one of my favorite breakfast dishes…Tomato and Basil sound yummy, I can’t wait. Thank you Maya for being such a creative chef and inspiring me to get in the kitchen to cook those recipes!

This book isn’t what I was expecting. It’s not bad, the recipes taste great, it just isn’t what I thought.

I was expecting at least 60% of the book to be sweet pies, but it’s probably 60% savory, and a large portion of the sweet pies were whoopie pies.

The fig and pig quiche is my jam though!

Chef Maya Camille Broussard is an absolute master of all things pie! This book is a perfect representation of her amazing talents and is perfect for every season… But especially this season!. Get it before thanksgiving and wow your family and friends with your newly found baking skills. Perfect for early Xmas gifts too if I do say so myself. I cannot wait to reference this book in all my pie making for years to come. Simply the best!!

I really love the Justice of the Pies cookbook and the uniqueness of it. I found it to be very colorful and personal. It also makes me want to cook more and try some of the recipes that are new to me and those that are familiar. If I may add I'm giving two as Christmas gifts to my daughter and granddaughter. Continued success to Maya-Camille Broussard

Noch nie hat ein Kochbuch mich so an meinen Backfähigkeiten zweifeln lassen. Vielleicht bin ich das Problem, vielleicht die in Europa verfügbaren Produkte und Backtemperaturen... was auch immer es ist, ich habe jetzt das dritte Rezept ausprobiert und keines ist mir auf Anhieb gelungen. Ja, backen ist schwer. Ja, ich bin vielleicht einfach nur zu doof... Aber der Sinn eines guten Backbuchs ist es doch, nicht Konditor sein zu müssen, damit man etwas nachbacken kann.
Die Rezepte klingen super, die Geschichten sind sehr interessant... Aber es klappt einfach nicht. Der Lemon-Cheescake der nur aus Kondensmilch besteht, ist nicht fest geworden. Der Sweet-Potato Praline Pie schmeckte nach nichts und der Pecan Pie sieht aus wie eine sehr feste, verbrannte Makrone.. vielleicht auch echt menschliches Versagen. Aber mir ist das noch nie bei einem Kochbuch passiert und ich koche sehr gerne und bin auch in der Lage einem Rezept zu folgen. Echt schade, aber ich kann das Buch nicht empfehlen. Einfach frustrierend.
