When Ninja cut Prime Day price to <$45, I jumped...and...
... I am glad I did. I had been wanting to try an air fryer but was concerned that it might be hard to return a cooking device after as many multiple uses I had in mind. The Prime Day deal of <$45 solved a price-time problem that Yale economics professor Bill Nordhaus advanced. How many hours would we have to work in order to afford a consumer item? With a price point of <$45, this Ninja air fryer can get consumers to try it out, and few of them will have to work more than 3 hours (i.e., $15/hour) to afford the device at that price. I've been using it for about a week. It already has saved me about three hours of cooking/cleaning time that I otherwise would have had to 'spend' as time cooking and cleaning up after I used this device to prepare: (i) corn on the cob, (ii) yellow perch filets, (iii) brats and hot dogs, (iv) frozen lasagna I bought on sale, (v) coconut shrimp, also frozen and on sale, (vi) bacon, (vii) small potatoes and other fresh vegetables, etc. To be truthful, I sometimes try to reduce cleaning time by using a little aluminum foil platform cut to about 5x5 inches and folded to trap moisture. So the cost of each item is a bit more when I do that. But it's not necessary. It's easy to clean. I have had none of the 'smells' issues mentioned by other purchasers of this device. Recall that this is a trimmed down model I bought to try out for our downsized family of two adults, but large enough to try things out. As an example, perch filets this AM took 6 minutes to cook, and 2 minutes to clean up. Tonight, three fresh Michigan corn on the cob cut in 1/2 required two cooking cycles of 6 minutes each in hand folded aluminum foil 'shelf' I created for inside the basket, no need for washing it. I washed the foil for next use. Lasagna foil was too messy to clean. I tossed it but didn't have to wash anything. You get the picture. Try it to gain the air fryer experience and decide whether you want more whistles and bells with a more expensive air fryer. I'll be watching for a device with 4-6 quart basket and more temperature options. This one has 2-quart basket and 400 degrees F, but I adjust the timer to deal with the fixed temperature it delivers. Not a problem. Most of the time, it means fewer minutes from start to finish. Highly recommended if you want to try out the air fryer experience. If I were a Ninja executive, I'd use it as a loss leader, get people to try it for <$45, and then give then a discount coupon to purchase upward toward a more fully-featured model once the initial experience is positive. The way Toyota marketed its early cars 50+ years ago. Got us hooked on low price Corollas in hope we'd spring for the higher price Toyota Coronas, etc. (p.s. A few more weeks of positive experience and no plastic smell. The fixed 400 degree F setting is not an impediment. I just adjust cooking time downward when the recipe calls for 275-399 F. The 6.3 inch square air fryer liners sold by MT&L via Amazon fit reasonably well (photo) & the height keeps the top edge of liner away from upper level of basket. The round 6.3" diameter Mikapana liners fit inside also, with a little tolerable wrinkle, per Pythagorean theorem. A 5.5" square liner would fit even better, but I'll use up the 6.3" set before I look for something smaller.)
This is my first air fryer that I picked up for my teenagers to be able to quickly and simply heat up their snacks and so far it is perfect. No temp to set, just one simple turn dial for time. The size is perfect for a handful of chicken nuggets although it won't fit much more than that, the small form factor and clean, modern look are perfect to just leave out on the counter. Looks like a small coffee maker. Price was a good deal. Extremely happy with it so far.
Very nice air fyer, but keep in mind that the 2 quarts are pretty small and it does not have a temperature gauge, but only a timer gauge so it’s important to keep an eye on it until you can get acclimated to how high it heats up. Aesthetically it is very beautiful looking, but the basket is small. However, I do like the fact that it is compact and does not take too much of my already small counter space . I did buy this on a sale but even at that price I don’t think it was completely worth it because as I stated several times I wish that it was just a little bit bigger but that’s my fault for not fully comprehending what a 2 quart versus a 4 quart difference was. Overall, I am pleased with this little gadget. I wish it was a little bigger, but since it’s for myself, it’s not a dealbreaker.
My first air fryer. It has a turn-dial for the cook time, and is always set to 400 degrees. The food comes out evenly done. It's sized to make a side dish for 2 people (veggies or potatoes). It is SO easy to clean too (my favorite part). The reason it's 4-stars instead of 5 is two-fold: 1. The turn knob for the timing is not very accurate. It's also hard to turn off if you feel like you've started to overcook something. There's also no pause-to-shake option. 2. For the same price point, I've seen larger air fryers that have digital timing and temp control. If you have more than 2 in your family, you will need something larger. But if not, this is a good option and I do recommend.
i love food. let me tell you!! This lil airfryer fit my needs so well!! Definitely only cooks for one, but that's all I needed. And now, my first thought is always, "let me airfry it" not "lEt'S PuT iT In ThE OveN" or "Let'S NuKe iT In ThE MiCroWaVe." I'm simply obsessed.
Only downside is it's always set to 400F. Which is not the end of the world for me. It cooks things fast and thoroughly. And there is a handy timer.
I wanted to try an air fryer and found this as a lightening deal Aug 2023 for $39.99. This is perfect for 1 person and I use this on a weekly basis. I have cooked anything from fresh to frozen. There is a timer and the food cooks at 400 degrees. The set cooking temp does not limit what can be cooked. I waited so long to review because I was not sure if I would lose interest in another kitchen "gadget". Making single servings is easy and the basket is easy to wash, very little to clean up after.
Product looks nicely made but even at its lowest timer setting, it starts to burn what ever you put in it. The temperature should be lower (this unit has a fixed temperature setting). If I put a piece of pizza in at 4 minutes, pizza shows signs of well toasted but it is still cold inside. Put it at 6 minutes and it starts burning the toppings.
Love it, perfect size for me. Not too bulky. I live in a small condo, fits perfect. The unit, heats up fast. And cooks , my food faster than the oven. The price was very good.
Good compact air fryer. This brand doesn't disappoint. This model is small and it is ok. Only cons is they have no temperature control, only timer. Overall, that's good.
