I use this to filter an infusion of ginger into a single mug. I boil slices of ginger on a separate pan, and filter the water onto a single mug using this strainer. Before I used this, I always got some of the tiny pieces of ginger into my mug, but not anymore. The size is good for my operation and the strainer is easy to clean.

This is a well-designed, sturdy product that is useful precisely because it is small. Others have pointed out its usefulness in straining tea leaves or powdered sugar or cocoa. I find it handy for many things, but I grab it most frequently for catching the seeds when juicing a lemon. I've never really found it necessary to use a reamer--I mean, it takes so little effort to just cut a lemon in half and squeeze it by hand--but this way you don't have to improvise by using a fork as a strainer, try to dig the seeds out with a knife before juicing the lemon, or fish seeds out of your food when these strategies inevitably fail. All of a sudden I find myself making a citron pressé at the drop of a hat like I'm living the good life at some fancy-pants Paris cafe. It's nice that a device that works well for this random purpose is also useful for so many other little tasks, instead of sitting in a drawer waiting to be used for its one specialty job. Like most OXO products, this strainer is thoughtfully designed, well made, and easy to use.

Excellent, sturdy strainer that is easy to rinse out! One of my essential day-to-day items!

I got this mini-strainer to strain herbs from loose-leaf tea/herbs. I make tea in large batches, so I use about 1/4 cup of herbs at a time, and that seems to be almost exactly the amount that this holds! Also the strainer fits perfectly into the top of a mason jar, especially the wide-mouth ones, without space on the sides but also without having to be held in place. Perfect!

Anyway I included those details in case anyone else is looking for similar purposes, but of course it would work for straining other things :) It's a nice fine mesh as described - I never have any herbs get through into my tea unless they're basically powder-sized pieces. 2 thumbs up!

This strainer is a compact and functional tool that makes lots of little tasks easier. We use it often to separate seeds from fresh squeezed lemons. The design allows it to easily rest over a large bowl but the strainer is deep enough to make it hard to rest on some smaller containers (like a small coffee mug). I've also used this to filter extra coffee grinds out of a fresh cup from a french press and it manages to catch even fine grains. The small size makes it much nicer than larger strainers or colanders, it sits snugly in our silverware drawer and is easy to find space for in a dishwasher - which makes cleaning a breeze.
