big peeler is an over-sized peeler with a specially developed blade designed for tackling tough vegetables. The blade is 50% larger than standard Y shape peelers and will peel something like a butternut squash in under a minute. On everyday carrots and potatoes it is very fast indeed, needing very little pressure and far fewer strokes. It will even peel a Pineapple. Designed by the influential designer Damian Evans.

So I love this. I love butternut squash soup, but I'd pretty much stopped making it, because squash are so.hard.to.cut. Someone told me that i can peel it with my potato peeler, and I was super excited. I tried. Clearly my potato peeler was sub-par for de-skinning a squash. I found this in some online magazine article or another, and I thought, "Ten bucks? Why don't I give it a try?" So I ordered this, and I bought a squash. I was skeptical actually. Then I was pleasantly surprised, because it peeled that big ol' squash just like it was a thin skinned potato!Pictures are comparison in size between the Big Peeler and a standard vegetable peeler. It really does make a *huge* difference!

I purposefully waited to write this review so I could truly test this peeler. My wife and I cook a lot of vegetables and use a peeler often. This peeler is easy to use, well designed and even cuts off the stem end of vegetables. I even like to use it for slices to place in the dehydrator. Very useful tool for us. I liked it so much I just bought my second one for the RV.

I read other reviews on how sharp this product is, so when I peel sweet potatoes or squash I put a kitchen towel under the vegetable to keep it from slipping. I hold vegetable from the top and peel the bottom half and then turn it around and peel the top half always away from the holding hand, this way the blade does not come near my other hand. This is a fantastic peeler for tough skin veggies!

I bought this mostly to help peel butternut squash. It does a great job on the squash. I tried it on pineapple with no luck but now it is my go to peeler for everything. I bought several as gifts. I have gone back to the old sharp knife for the pineapple.

It’s amazing just how much the little things can make your day, if you allow it. This big bastard has saved me tons of time, I’d be lost without it. Gone are the days of russet skin clogged blades where you’d rather watch paint dry than be aggravated by your peeler. Ain’t nobody got time for that.
