My old GE toaster oven failed a few years ago and I bought the best toaster oven I could find in Target. It was $40. Like all of the other's I saw the timer was cheaply made and very hard to precisely adjust. This means either un-toasted bread or charcoal could easily be obtained. How could they call that a toaster. It was a bread burner! I just had to get something better and get rid of that one. Then I found the Breville Compact Smart Oven on Amazon.
After the 100th piece of burnt toast I had finally broken down and decided to risk paying $170 for this digitally timed toaster and $30 for the matching wooden cutting board. What a difference. This Breville is actually better than my old GE toaster oven that you can longer buy. Every toasting job precisely done. It even properly shortens the time for a hot toaster so that every slice is consistent. It is a lot more money than my old bread burner, but I am very happy they make it and I own it.
I have used it to make open-face tuna fish english muffins covered with melted cheese and other toaster oven things. All were good. It is a little bigger than my older toaster oven but it is still fairly small and it fits in old spot. The bigger cooking tray size make it easier to fit four slices of bread or two pieces of the really big center cut french bread. The larger tray size is nice. It comes with a companion broiler pan that is properly sized for the oven. I found all of knobs and controls easy to use and very clear in function. It joy to use the controls on this oven. You may shorten or lengthen the digitally displayed remaining cooking time during a cooking cycle and do it easily by simply turning a knob .
I even pushed the cooking envelop and made a berry pie and on another occasion I made an apple pie. Both pies were excellent. I have a regular oven but I liked the simple usage of the timer in this digital toaster oven. It is easier to use (a safer from burning) than using my bigger oven. This Breville turns off at the predetermined time just like a microwave and the temperature is digitally set so it very reproducible.
I really like my Breville BOV650XL Smart Oven. It is simply the best toaster oven I have seen or used, though at times it seems a little expensive. In defense of the price it appears to very well made and has a high quality look about it. In comparison with some other kitchen tools I have it is fairly cheap. My stainless steel pots for example were a lot more expensive and I do not enjoy them any more than this toaster oven. It is a good quality appliance at a fair price. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do.

Awesome in ALMOST every way
This is a wonderful upgrade from my cheaper Black + Decker toaster/oven. The smell after unpacked and ran for the first time was very minimal. 4 times running the pizza setting (oven runs for 15 min at 425 degrees each time) and I felt safe using it. Toasts bread and English Muffins evenly, it gets hot but it doesn't radiate like cheaper ovens. Love everything about this EXCEPT I'm a little surprised that opening the door doesn't pull out the cookning tray. You'll need to keep a hot pad close-by to pull out the tray which is a disappointment for an oven in this price bracket. It's a very solid, easy to slide in/out tray thankfully but I wish I didn't have to have a hot pad next to the unit to use everytime I use this....
