  • We are excited to announce the launch of our new monthly special issue, “Former Judge's Insights on Representative IP Cases in China.” In each issue, we will feature a former senior judge from the Lung Tin team who will share their expert opinions and practical advice on a recent hotspot or representative case in the IP field in China.   In this issue, former senior Judge Mr. Yan JIAO comments on a case where the Shanghai High People's Court in China issued landmark rulings that fundamentally recalibrated the role of GUI products in design patent infringement assessments and shattered the barriers of the theory of indirect infringement of design patents, providing insights into the evolution of GUI protection and the challenges faced in China. Mr. Yan JIAO served in the IP Tribunal of the Beijing High People's Court for 21 years including 8 years as Vice President of the IP Tribunal (recognized as a third-grade senior judge), and he also worked at the Intellectual Property Court of the Supreme People's Court of China (SPC) as one of its first judges and Chief Judges for three years.   We hope you find this valuable and informative. Please feel free to share it with your colleagues who may benefit from this. If you have any questions about IP protection in China, please do not hesitate to contact us. Thank you.
