From June 16th to 19th, FBR was honoured to participate in the 6th Cordage Institute and EuroCord Joint Technology Forum, held in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, USA. Our Chief Technology Officer, Dr. Chiate (Rafael) Chou, on behalf of FBR and Qingdao University, presented a speech titled "Improvement of Twisted Yarns on the Stability of Yarn Test Methods - Wear and CoF Measurement". His presentation offered new insights into the Coefficient of Friction (CoF) test methods for yarns. It introduced ideas to enhance the stability and accuracy of yarn wear and CoF measurement methods and equipment. We are thrilled to announce the completion and delivery of "Haiyang Shiyou 122" – also known as "Haikui No.1" – a groundbreaking floating, production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) facility. As Asia's first and the world's seventh cylindrical offshore oil and gas processing plant, "Haikui No.1" fills numerous gaps in China's offshore engineering capabilities. Some key milestones of this incredible project: August 31, 2023: Completing domestically produced deep-sea permanent mooring polyester ropes. May 12, 2024: "Haikui No.1" boarded the largest semi-submersible in Asia - COSCO Shipping Group's flagship semi-submersible Xin Guanghua, and departed from Qingdao May 29, 2024: Arrival at the operational sea area after a 17-day, 1300-nautical-mile journey. On June 10, 2024, China's self-developed FPSO facility, Haiyang Shiyou 122, completed its main structure in Qingdao, Shandong Province. Haiyang Shiyou 122, also known as "Haikui No.1," features a main structure comprising the hull and the upper functional module. Its maximum diameter of about 90 meters means its main deck area is equivalent to 13 standard basketball courts. It boasts a maximum displacement of 100,000 tonnes and a storage capacity of 60,000 tonnes of oil. Designed for a 30-year service life, this facility can operate continuously at sea for 15 years without docking, integrating crude oil production, storage, and external transmission functions. Haikui No.1 was positioned at the Liuhua oilfield in the Pearl River Mouth Basin. Standing more than 60 meters high, Haikui No.1 is aptly nicknamed the "super energy bowl." Impressively, it took only 26 months to complete its main structure, halving the construction time compared to similar-scale cylindrical production facilities worldwide. As a member of the CNOOC Deepsea Oil and Gas Equipment Industry Alliance, FBR developed and produced eight domestic polyester mooring lines(four sets, each comprising two lines). These mooring lines are crucial for Haikui No.1's long-term stable operation. This achievement represents the first large-scale application of domestically produced anchor chains and polyester mooring lines in deepsea mooring systems. Each mooring line consists of hundreds of thousands of fibers, measuring 1,300 meters in length, weighing 80 tonnes, with a diameter of 274 millimetres, and an ultimate breaking strength of 2,306 tonnes, certified by the DNV classification society. We focus on 6mm, 12mm, and 16mm diameters using a 300-ton breaking test machine. On April 25th, at the New Power System Innovation and Development Conference and Innovation Achievements Release Conference in Jinan, Shandong, the establishment of the Deep-Sea Offshore Wind Power Industry Innovation Alliance was announced. We are proud to share that FBR has been invited to join this alliance! The Deep-Sea Offshore Wind Power Industry Innovation Alliance, comprising 15 leading organizations, aims to drive the high-quality development of the deep-sea wind power sector. FBR has received recognition from ABS, DNV, and CCS for our offshore mooring ropes, specifically in the installation and laying of domestic permanent mooring lines for the Liuhua Oil Field Secondary Development of the FPSO "HAIYANG SHIYOU 122" project. The Dragon Boat Festival is a traditional Chinese holiday celebrated to commemorate the ancient poet Qu Yuan. On this day, we will have dragon boat races and eat zongzi, a type of sticky rice dumpling. FBR will be on holiday from June 8th to June 10th to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival.
