  1. Take a Dip in the River

Take advantage of the unique opportunity to swim in the Charles River! On July 13th, the Charles River Conservancy will host their annual state-sanctioned swim where attendees will get to cool off in one of the cleanest urban rivers in the country. Registration opened June 6th – keep an eye out here!

  1. Charles River Rowing

Community Rowing Inc., the only public access rowing organization on the Charles, offers the exciting option to learn to row on the river – no prerequisites required! Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned pro, there is an option for anyone 12 and above to learn their hand at rowing on the river. Find out more and register here

  1. Clean Up the Charles River

Help your community in a fun and engaging way by hopping aboard the Cleanup Boat! Founded in the Spring of 2004, the Cleanup Boat strives to keep the Charles free of floating debris. The boat operates two to four days a week and the ride will take volunteers downriver from Watertown to the Zakim Bridge. Lend your time to the Charles River and have a great day out on the water in exchange – volunteer sign-ups can be found here

  1. Paddle, Kayak, or Canoe Along the River

Rent a paddleboard, a kayak, or a canoe, and get some exercise while enjoying all the views the Charles River has to offer. Sign up for a lesson on how to do any of the aforementioned activities, or, if you’re feeling confident, rent equipment and get out on the water yourself! More information can be found here.

With a mission to make sailing accessible for everyone, Community Boating has an option for anybody who wants to get out on the river – from youth classes, to adult, to the Universal Access program intended for one-on-one instruction for those who may not otherwise be able to sail.
