As a volunteer for Heppie, I organise holidays for children who really need that. For example, children who do not live at home because of family problems, children who have ADHD, an autistic disorder, little money or no friends. Heppie says “every child needs attention” and wants to give these children a fantastic time and lots of love and attention.

As a volunteer for Heppie, I organise holidays for children who really need that. For example, children who do not live at home because of family problems, children who have ADHD, an autistic disorder, little money or no friends. Heppie says “every child needs attention” and wants to give these children a fantastic time and lots of love and attention.

Stichting HEPPIE (voorheen stichting Kico) is een landelijke vrijwilligersorganisatie die zich inzet voor kinderen die door omstandigheden niet de kans krijgen om onbezorgd op te groeien zoals elk kind dat verdient. In Nederland geldt dit voor ruim 5% van de kinderen.

De doelgroep van HEPPIE is heel divers, denk hierbij onder andere aan:

* Kinderen uit armoedegezinnen, zoals bijstandgezinnen en gezinnen met een schuldsanering, die nooit de kans krijgen er eens even uit te zijn;
* Kinderen die wegens een ernstig verstoorde thuissituatie nauwelijks of geen contact hebben met thuis, en aangewezen zijn op een leefgroep of pleeggezin;
* Kinderen met ontwikkelingsstoornissen zoals ADHD of een stoornis in het autistisch spectrum, die niet zonder extra begeleiding met andere kinderen kunnen spelen;
* Kinderen met een achterstand die extra begeleiding nodig hebben om mee te kunnen met de anderen;
* Kinderen met ernstig zieke ouders, die vaak al verantwoordelijkheden dragen die niet bij een kind horen.

HEPPIE organiseert voor deze doelgroep begeleide groepsvakanties, opvangweekenden en ouder/kindvakanties. Ruim 300 vrijwilligers bieden op deze manier elk jaar meer dan 700 kinderen de kans om even weg te zijn uit hun dagelijkse situatie om tot rust te komen, samen te spelen en positieve aandacht te ervaren. Ze kunnen zo even hun problemen vergeten, bijtanken en proeven van de zonnige kant van het bestaan. Het leert vriendjes maken en voelt zich gezien. As a volunteer for the Aspire program I worked with young people diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome and similar high-functioning autistic spectrum conditions, who are in mainstream education. We created a social space for club members to interact on a level with which they are comfortable.
Young people came to relax and be themselves, and to do things that they enjoy. There is no pressure to socialise, but members often find they enjoy sharing their activities with others who may have similar… Mehr anzeigen
