That’s why WWF – an independent conservation organization active in nearly 100 countries – is tackling the deepening crisis of nature loss caused by human activities. Our ambition is to set nature on the path to recovery in the coming decade for the benefit of people and wildlife.     Teamwork for people and planet: That's why we work together with WWF 🌎 Creating more impact together: With this goal in mind, we at Lidl are now working together as part of a strategic international partnership with WWF. Building on from existing local partnerships, for example in Switzerland and Austria, the new international partnership will involve 31 countries. The global ecological and social challenges of our time can only be managed if we work together. That is why it is time to join forces. 💪 As one of Europe's largest food retailer and one of the world's most experienced conservation organisations, the long-term cooperation with WWF will focus on working along Lidl’s value chain, thereby helping to address the global ecological challenges of our time, and ensuring that more households have access to more sustainable choices. 💚 Christoph Pohl, Chief Purchasing Officer at Lidl International, explains the reasons for the partnership: “In our role as one of the largest food retailers, we are aware of our responsibility and our influence. We take responsibility with the aim of doing business within planetary boundaries. For Lidl, sustainable management is not only a question of attitude, but also the basis for the future viability of our business model. With the support and expertise of WWF, we will now take our commitment to sustainability to the next level. We can only overcome major global challenges such as climate change and nature loss by working together.     This week the world has experienced the three hottest days on record. But let’s face facts: extreme temperatures are no longer a one day, one week or one month phenomenon. Earth is becoming hotter and more dangerous for everyone, everywhere. Billions of people are facing an extreme heat epidemic. Heat is estimated to kill almost half a million people a year. We know what is driving it: fossil fuel-charged, human-induced climate change. Extreme heat is the new abnormal. But the good news is we can save lives and limit its impact.     As an Advisory Council Member of the Science Based Targets Network since 2019 it is really exciting to see this important milestone being delivered. Congratulation to the talented and resilient team that has worked incredible hard to make SBTN a reality. It is a true achievement to translate complex science into action for the corporate sector. Some of the achievements of the pilot have never been delivered before ... like companies actually setting conversion-free targets on their supply chains! We still have a journey to go but the pioneering companies and the fantastic scientists behind this work have my true admiration. Congratulations!     🚀 We are thrilled to announce the main 2024 release of updated technical guidance and new enabling resources for companies to set science-based targets for nature, informed by our trail-blazing cohort of pilot companies! 🎉 These updates enhance the feasibility and practicality of our methods while maintaining ambition and scientific rigor. ✅ New resources to improve accessibility and drive action have also been introduced, including a comprehensive corporate manual that serves as an entry-point into the technical guidance. 📝 SBTN’s target validation pilot highlighted key benefits of target-setting and reinforced that SBTN is closing a critical gap in corporate sustainability, including: 🌟 Increases ambition and drives science-based action on nature. 🤝 Provides credibility and a common language to advance engagement with stakeholders. 🧭 Acts as a trusted compass for companies to get to the right solutions.
