I-COM Global hat dies direkt geteilt
Changing the culture at a global corporate can feel intimidating. In prospect, it can feel like an impossible task. Like trying to slow down or change the direction of a super-tanker as it comes into port. Yet, if you apply the principles of engineering – testing, validating, and then moving from proof of concept to adopting success at scale – it’s remarkable how quickly you can change that culture. In the latest episode of Data Malarkey – the podcast about using data smarter – Mars’ Senior Director for Marketing Effectiveness, Sorin Patilinet explains how he led the company to apply its proprietary, innovative, and highly effective ad testing platform right across the company. The episode went live first thing this morning. In three, short years, the Agile Creative Expertise (or ACE) Solution has gone from a concept to testing 800 ads a year, across brands as diverse as M&Ms and Snickers, Wrigley’s and Orbit, and Pedigree and Whiskas. “I think it’s easier to get from data to insight than from insight to action,” says Sorin. “We did an amazing job at Mars to do everything at scale. By generating a lot of scale, you can run meta-learnings and understand what’s important. All those insights: we have them.” What’s unique about the solution – apart from the fact that it really works – is that it’s rooted in actual consumer behaviour. It uses measures of intention including eye-tracking, attention paid, and emotion which have been found time and again to trump declarative survey findings. This evidence-based approach characterises engineering and for many years has been alien to marketing. It’s no surprise that the architect and conductor of ACE – Sorin – has a rich background and training in engineering. Or that he calls himself ‘the Marketing Engineer’.
