To ensure their functionality, safety standards and manufacturer's instructions must be followed.   The American National Standard for Emergency Eyewash and Shower Equipment (ANSI Z358.1-2014 (R2020)) is an important standard for these devices. It is recognized worldwide and establishes requirements for the performance and testing of eyewashes and emergency showers for the emergency treatment of persons exposed to hazardous materials.   ANSI Z358.1-2014 (R2020) requires periodic testing of eyewashes, eye/face washes, and emergency showers, with specific criteria for weekly and annual testing. Weekly tests check for the presence of flushing fluid and that supply lines are free of debris and blockages to prevent microbial buildup.
