🌎Exciting news from NPAP Peru for their first workshop on social context and gender equity! It brought together diverse perspectives, providing insights to develop an inclusive National Plastics Action Roadmap for Peru.

Following INC-4, the second webinar in a series co-hosted by the Financing Coordination Group will cover mobilizing resources for the international legally binding instrument (ILBI) objectives and aligning financial flows to help Member States and other stakeholders understand the necessary financial mechanisms to tackle plastic pollution effectively. Participants will come away with:  ◾ The different financial mechanisms that may be considered - new, existing, and hybrid mechanisms. ◾ The obligations or agreed instrumental costs associated with the ILBI that need to be financed. ◾ Activities that may not be supported by the financial mechanism and the reasons behind this. ◾ Potential funding gaps for Member States to consider when implementing the ILBI to tackle plastic pollution, and strategies to address them. The Voluntary Pact’s co-design workshop, a significant step forward, aimed to reduce 70% of single-use plastics in Ghana's supermarkets by 2030. Plastic Punch organized the workshop with support from the GIZ Ghana Go Circular Project and collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation. Industry leaders such as MaxMart, Marina Mall, Melcom, Green Butterfly Market, All Needs Supermarket, and Sneda Shop, along with political partners, stakeholders, and organizations like the Environmental Protection Agency and Food and Beverages Association of Ghana, participated in the session. Ghana National Plastic Action Partnership appreciates the opportunity to collaborate and align strategies to combat plastic pollution and is optimistic about our progress.

Last week in Dalian, China, the World Economic Forum hosted the Annual Meeting of the New Champions 2024 #AMNC24, bringing together over 1,500 leaders from business, government, civil society, international organizations, and academia.   With 2024 projected to be the hottest year in history, the urgency to meet the 2015 Paris Agreement targets has never been greater.
