The 46th International Military Sports Council (CISM) World Military Parachuting Championships starts today in Szolnok, Hungary. 🇭🇺 CISM upholds the motto ‘Friendship through Sport’ and has maintained a long partnership with FAI through its Skydiving Commission (ISC). ISC President Alberto Martin Paracuellos is attending the Championships and comments that, “CISM parachuting events are always very well attended, and the organisation is outstanding.” Just like FAI, CISM is recognised by the International Olympic Committee and Parachuting as a sport has developed through a symbiotic relationship between both civilian and military channels. ICARE, the FAI Astronautic Records Commission, congratulates @NASA and Boeing on the successful launch of the first crewed mission and test flight of the Boeing Starliner. Last week's launch adds another crewed spacecraft to the growing fleet of human rated NASA vehicles and much needed redundancy for access to space. We already wish a safe return for astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams at the conclusion of the mission. Credits: NASA #airsports

The winners of our annual FAI Young Artists Contest have been announced. Nine remarkable young people have been inspired by the theme of ‘air sports for a peaceful world’ to create their own vision of harmony and unity, evidencing a clear understanding of this hopeful message and demonstrating astonishing technical skill in putting their ideas on paper. The intention of the 2024 theme was to encourage artists to consider the potential for air sports to bring people together, promoting positive relationships that cross borders and contribute to a better, more peaceful world. Symbols such as doves, hearts, and flags of all nations entwine with paragliders, hot air balloons and gliders in the colourful artworks. 💙 Pictured here is the work by Jihyeon Han of USA, who has been awarded the top prize in the senior category. This represents a great achievement, as Jihyeon also came first in the 2023 contest, in the intermediate category. ▶ See all winners: https://lnkd.in/d4Tj3pmH The FAI warmly congratulates the artists and thanks the FAI members who launched their national competitions for 2024. The theme for the FAI Young Artists Contest 2025 will soon be announced. #airsports #youngartist

Event Director Barney Townsend shares an insight on the groundbreaking new paramotor championships format which will burst onto the international scene this August. “The great thing about the new 'Endurance' format is that it gives more airtime.” he explains, “Pilots who are travelling a long way to compete want to spend less time at the airfield and longer in the air.” The inaugural FAI World Paramotor Endurance Championship Endurance Paramotor will challenge pilots' navigational skills, with much longer flight windows and a focus on strategy over speed. ➕ Guide to the new format: https://lnkd.in/gY5GSFDm Dates: 3-10 August 2024 Location: Manston Airport, Kent, United Kingdom Registration is now open: join teams from Poland, Australia, Slovakia, India, Japan, Iceland, Belgium and Spain...
