Exciting developments from neustark, an ACE Ventures portfolio company! Neustark raised $69 million in a funding round, marking a major milestone in the firm's mission to remove 1 million tons of CO2 by 2030. This investment will enable Neustark to scale promising carbon removal technology and expand its offerings to address growing global demand. Additionally, the company plans to expand its team and enter new markets in North America and Asia-Pacific. ACE & Company was proud to be a Network Partner of this year's Swiss Economic Forum in Interlaken on June 6 and 7, 2024. 1,350 managers discussed solutions and strategies for navigating geopolitical and economic challenges under the motto "When the going gets tough." The program featured distinguished national and international figures from business, politics, and science. President Viola Amherd opened the forum, emphasizing the need for flexibility and preparation amid a prolonged crisis due to the unstable global security situation. The political discourse continued with Sanna Marin, the former Prime Minister of Finland, and Michael R. Pompeo, the 70th Secretary of State of the USA. We were thrilled to see one of the cofounders of neustark, Valentin Gutknecht, grace the stage as one of the finalists in the SEF.Award (production/trade category) to push the agenda on decarbonization. Really enjoyed being at startup days today and discussing with my dear Thuy-Linh Uong how the power law distribution affects everything we do in early stage VC. A topic that we are very fond of at ACE Ventures and Lightbird and drives everything we do as investors. Just like many natural and human-made phonomena in life, like distribution of wealth and frequency of names, also startups success (and VC returns) follows this well known rule. In a given early stage portfolio often only 1-2 startups make all the success of the fund, the so called “fund-returner”. A highly-debated and more often than not misunderstood topic, that brought us to the fundamental truth that finding outliers is a combination of intuition, hard work and luck! Thank you Florian M.
