Working towards a future where no one dies prematurely from NCDs and all have access to prevention, treatment and care.
Info
Access Accelerated is an initiative that brings together leading biopharmaceutical and life science companies committed to tackling the growing burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in low- and middle-income countries. Together with partners from across the global biopharmaceutical sector, multilateral organizations and non-governmental organizations, Access Accelerated works toward a future where no one dies prematurely from treatable, preventable diseases. Launched in 2017, the initiative works to identify and break down barriers to NCD prevention, treatment and care by uniting the efforts of the biopharmaceutical industry and applying the member company’s global reach and local expertise to address the NCD challenge. We believe in and work to support inclusive local and country-led engagement and ownership. Addressing the scale and complexity of the NCD challenge requires deeper and stronger collaboration, across all sectors. Through listening, learning and acting together, we believe we can co-create scalable and sustainable solutions to improve people’s health. Access Accelerated supports the UN Sustainable Development Goals to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages (SDG 3) and effective global partnerships for sustainable development (SDG 17). Our work is in support of achieving the specific NCD target to reduce premature deaths related to NCDs by one-third by 2030 (SDG 3.4) Access Accelerated recognizes that only by putting the needs of people living with NCDs first and acting in collaboration with partners can the global community make measurable and sustainable progress against NCDs in developing countries. IFPMA's blog story by Tamara Schudel on the second international dialogue on financing for #NCDs and #mentalhealth highlights the importance of multisectoral, collective action. Great insights to help us move forward in strengthening NCD financing!
Last week, the World Health Organization and The World Bank hosted an international dialogue on sustainable financing for non-communicable diseases (#NCDs) and #mentalhealth. The event gathered health policy and finance stakeholders, including IFPMA and its members, to discuss integrating responses to NCDs and mental health into health and financing strategies. Tamara Schudel, Chair of IFPMA’s Global Health and Access Committee and Vice President & Head of Global Policy at Roche, shared her key insights. She stressed the need for diversified financing expertise and stronger multilateral and multistakeholder collaboration to improve #globalhealth. Health-enhancing stakeholders, such as the pharmaceutical industry, can play a critical role in working with others to find new ways to unlock financing from less traditional sources. ➡️Read her full blog: https://ifpma.info/4eD9mMK

International Dialogue on Sustainable Financing for NCDs and Mental Health (Washington DC, June 20-21, 2024) I was very pleased to attend this important event, co-organized by the World Bank and WHO, on behalf of Access Accelerated. I had the opportunity to speak about the critical need for "unprecedented partnerships" to address NCDs and mental health, the imperative to constructively engage the "private sector" (which includes a broad variety of organizations that can support the NCD financing agenda in various ways), and the opportunity for country empowerment via platforms that enable countries to learn from each other about financing solutions, local insights/best practices, and investment cases. I applaud the World Bank-WHO collaboration, the joint attendance by country ministries of health AND finance, and the active presence of many global NCD thought leaders like Sir George Alleyne, Rachel Nugent, Johanna Ralston, Cary Adams, Allison Cox, Bent Lautrup-Nielsen, Jean-Luc Eisele, Felicia Knaul, Vanessa Peberdy, and others. Finally, I was gratified to be approached by World Bank country/regional leads who thanked Access Accelerated for our support and flexible funding over the years which enabled them to drive impactful projects that led to larger World Bank loans and grants. Together we are making an "on the ground" difference for people living with, or at risk of developing, NCDs. But there is much more work to be done!
