A Complete Guide to Vaping CBD

Share if you care

The past few years have seen a huge increase in vaping. Part of this is that people are looking for safer alternatives to smoking tobacco. But folks are also enjoying the variety of vape flavors, the convenience of a discrete vape pen, and the joy of a good puff.

CBD vaping has become incredibly popular, certainly for all the reasons above. But vaping CBD is also very popular because it’s an efficient way to take CBD and enjoy its beneficial effects almost immediately.

How? Well, that’s what we’re going to discuss today. Join us as we take a deep dive into CBD vaping, including how to use vape kits and pens, an exploration of how vaped CBD oil interacts with the body, an extensive look at all of the incredible flavors that are available, and what the heck a VG/PG ratio is.

Vaping CBD: What Is CBD?

cbdfx us vape pen blue raspberry device jan Before we get into the vapes themselves, we should take a moment to talk about just what it is we’re vaping. CBD, or cannabidiol, is one of a group of chemical compounds that come from the cannabis plant, called cannabinoids. The cannabis plant generates cannabinoids on its surface to help protect it against the elements and insect predators, as well as to attract pollinators.

The human body, as well as those of all vertebrates, produces its own cannabinoids, called endocannabinoids. These are part of the body’s endocannabinoid system, a cell-signaling system that works to regulate functions throughout the body’s nervous system, as well as other systems and organs. Endocannabinoids are actually neurotransmitters that attach to receptors that signal to other systems and help them to maintain homeostasis, or balance. This has beneficial effects on such crucial functions as sleep, mood, memory, appetite, pain, stress, motor control, and more.

When plant-based cannabinoids, or phytocannabinoids, are introduced to the body, they act in much the same way, signaling to receptors to keep the body’s systems in balance. Different cannabinoids interact differently. For instance, CBN signals to receptors that help with sleep, making it a useful sleep supplement. THC affects sleep, mood, memory and other functions in such a way that it creates a sort of euphoria. This is commonly referred to as getting high. It’s worth noting that all of the CBD oil and CBD vape products we’ll be talking about today are derived from a low-THC form of cannabis, called hemp. Because of this (and an extra filtration process we’ll discuss shortly), your CBD vaping products will not get you high.

As for CBD, cannabidiol has positive effects on several of the body’s systems and functions, making it a great all-around wellness product. In addition to helping the body maintain balance and wellness in its various systems, CBD can also be a calming product. Often this calming effect is described as CBD’s “chill.” You don’t get high by vaping CBD, but you can enjoy a nice calming focus.

Vaping CBD: What Is Vaping?

Hey, if we’re going to cover the basics, we might as well also talk about what exactly vaping is. Vaping refers to using an electronic device — such as a vape pen, e-cigarette, or some hookahs — to heat up a liquid, so that the user can inhale the resulting vapor. In the case of CBD vaping, that liquid includes CBD oil. It also includes liquids, propylene glycol and vegetable glycol, that give thickness to the vapor and help to deliver the flavor of the oil, and any additional flavors that have been added.

Vaping CBD: What Is the Best CBD Oil for Vaping?

As we dig into the ingredients of a good CBD vape, we should start with the oil. When you’re looking for the best CBD oil for vaping, you want to find oil that is made with organic hemp and extracted from the hemp plant via clean CO2 extraction. This ensures that you’re not vaping harmful chemicals from fertilizers, pesticides, heavy metals, and residual solvents. Impure CBD oil can put any or all of these terrible things into your lungs. So, make sure to look at the third-party lab report (Certificate of Analysis) of any CBD product you plan on purchasing. If the CBD company you’re ordering from doesn’t make this readily available on their website, move on to a more reputable company.

As for types of CBD oil, there are three that vary based on the amount of filtering done to the hemp plant oil.

Full Spectrum CBD Oil vs. Broad Spectrum CBD Oil vs. CBD Isolate

CBD oil is extracted from the buds, leaves and stalks of the cannabis hemp plant. The oil that comes from this initial extraction process is called full spectrum CBD oil. Full spectrum oil contains everything the hemp plant has to give: all of the cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, and some healthy fatty oils. As mentioned, hemp has a small, non-intoxicating amount of THC in it (less than 0.3%).

full spectrumFull spectrum CBD oil allows the consumer to enjoy the Entourage Effect. This is the term used to describe the phenomenon that happens when multiple cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids are consumed together. Instead of working individually, in parallel with one another, the various compounds actually boost each other’s effectiveness. The result is a deeper, richer CBD experience.

broad spectrumBecause many people don’t want any THC in their CBD oil, an extra filtration step takes place to remove it from the oil. The resulting oil is called broad spectrum CBD oil. With broad spectrum oil, all detectable levels of THC are removed, though the extraction process also takes with it some (but not all) of the other cannabinoids, terpenes and other compounds. Nevertheless, broad spectrum CBD still has a rich cannabinoid profile and allows the user to enjoy a slightly lesser, but still powerful version of the Entourage Effect.

cbd isolate@xCBD isolate is CBD with all other compounds removed. CBD isolate contains no other cannabinoids, terpenes or other chemical compounds. It is 99% pure CBD. As such, it does not induce the Entourage Effect, though it is still effective for therapeutic products like CBD Bath Bombs.

Which Type of CBD Oil Is Best for Vaping?

We began to answer this question above, when we strongly recommended CBD oil that is made with organic hemp and has been extracted with clean CO2. As for the type of oil, it depends on the effects you’re looking for. We use broad spectrum oil in our CBD vaping products. With detectable amounts of THC removed, you’ll never have to worry about accidentally getting a false-positive result on a drug test. But with broad spectrum CBD oil, you still experience a nice Entourage Effect, with CBD working in concert with CBG, CBN, CBC and other cannabinoids, as well as terpenes and flavonoids. This makes for a rich, enjoyable vaping experience.

That said, if you’re look for some extra bliss in your vape cloud, you should consider our delta-9 THC pens, made with full spectrum CBD with the THC levels taken right up to the legal limit!

Vaping CBD: What Are the Other Ingredients in My CBD Vape?

cbdfx photo render vape pen disposables bundle feb ()We mentioned earlier that a few other liquids were added to vape fluids for body and flavor. Propylene glycol (PG) is a colorless, odorless liquid used in a variety of food and medical applications. It helps to evenly distribute the taste and flavor of the vape juice. Vegetable glycol (VG) is a natural chemical derived from vegetable oil. It’s used to give a certain level of thickness to the vapor, and smoothes out the harshness of the propylene glycol, giving your e-liquid flavors more body.

There is some debate as to the right mixture of propylene glycol (PG) to vegetable glycol (VG) in vapes. We find that a 50/50 ratio of PG to VG gives just the right throat hit, with rich flavor and good vapor body.

The last thing you should see on a CBD vape oil ingredient profile are the flavors. If you see anything else on a product label or third-party lab report, ditch that oil immediately. Additives, like vitamin E acetate or essential oils, can be incredibly harmful and should be avoided at all costs. Look for companies that only use natural flavors, so that you’re not harming your lungs and other organs by vaping.

CBD Vaping: How Do I Vape CBD?

We sell two types of CBD vape products: CBD vape pens and CBD vape kits. Let’s take a look at each of these CBD vape products, and discuss not only how to use them but also what some of the benefits are to each one.

Using a Disposable CBD Vape Pen

Disposable CBD vape pens are great, because they’re small, discrete and no hassle at all to use. You never have to charge them, or worry about hitting buttons and powering them up. You just take your CBD pen out of the box, put it in your mouth, and inhale. That’s it! And when you’re done, toss it and order a new one. Easy peasy.

Prefer a more potent puff? Try our new and improved Delta-9 THC Vape Pens! These pens also contain 1500mg of CBD (full spectrum!), plus 10mg of blissful THC. Our delta-9 pens are available in four lip-smacking flavors: Maui Wowie THC Vape Pen, Pineapple Express THC Vape Pen, Watermelon Skit THC Vape Pen, and Purple Punch THC Vape Pen.

Using a CBD Vape Kit

A CBD vape kit is simply a refillable vape kit used to inhale CBD e-liquid. Due to the reusability factor of the vape kit and vape liquid inside, once you find a few flavors you like, you can fill your vape cartridge up and take significantly larger hits than you might with a standard CBD vape pen. This gives you the potential ability to enhance the benefits of CBD by drawing more of it into your body.

Our branded CBD Vape Oil Kit provides you with all the parts and instructions you need to keep your device running smoothly. Within the vape device, there is a 1000mAh lithium rechargeable battery, and each purchase includes a USB charger to ensure that the vaping device is always charged and ready for your vape sessions. A refillable cartridge is positioned towards the top of the vape device that utilizes stainless steel and glass material to deliver the best quality. Within the cartridge is a ceramic coil, allowing you to experience the pure flavor and a hefty amount of vapor.

vape kitThe CBD Vape Kit only weighs 2 oz. and offers an ultra-compact design. Its small size gives the vape kit increased mobility without having to sacrifice power, and it can be used anywhere with uncomplicated single-button operation.

To power on your vape kit, first press the power button five times in quick succession. After this, you’ll see the device power on and the LED light will blink pink/purple five times. Once the device is powered on, you should see the button light up blue any time you press it. To vape, you’ll need to hold this button down through the length of the inhale. As with vape pens, one or two puffs should suffice, though it’s okay to take a couple more puffs if you can’t feel anything.

Selecting Vape Juices for Your CBD Vape Kit

The fun part of using a CBD vape kit (besides the ritual aspect, which many of us enjoy) is trying different CBD vape juices. Because the vape kit is refillable, you can experiment all you want, while still relying on your trusty vaporizing device to get the job done.

Our CBD vape juice flavors include the fruity blast of Blue Raspberry, Wild Watermelon and Strawberry Kiwi, plus nostalgic favorites, Spearmint Gum and Strawberry Milk. Each of these premium vape juices is available in 500–2000mg bottles. We also have delta-9 THC vape liquids that feature classic cannabis flavors, including OG Kush, Pineapple Express, Maui Wowie, Purple Punch, and Wedding Cake. These juices contain 2000mg CBD and 75mg THC.

How Quickly Can I Feel the Effects of Vaping CBD?

cbdfx vapeseries blueraspberry mgAlong with portability, discretion and convenience, the other big benefit of vaping CBD is that it enters your bloodstream very quickly. The rate and amount of absorption is called bioavailability. In terms of bioavailability, vaping CBD is perhaps the most efficient method of consumption. Absorption of the CBD through the lungs, into the bloodstream, can take just a few minutes. And with CBD vapes, you can absorb up to 50% of the active ingredients.

Is It Safe to Vape CBD?

As long as you’re vaping from safe, well-made CBD vape cartridges and e-liquids, then yes, vaping CBD is safe. Make sure your CBD oil is organic and solvent-free, and that the other ingredients are natural, as well. There really shouldn’t be anything in your vape juice or liquid other than organic CBD oil, PG, VG, and natural flavors. It bears repeating: keep an eye out for less scrupulous companies that use potentially dangerous ingredients, including vitamin E acetate or essential oils.

The Last Word on Vaping CBD

Vaping CBD can be incredibly enjoyable. You get the calming wellness benefits of CBD quicker from vaping than any other method, plus (let’s be honest) it’s fun to make a big, fruity cloud! Vapes are discrete, convenient, and easy to use. For all of these reasons, CBD vaping has become hugely popular.
