Founded in 1978, the CAJ has been dedicated to promoting excellence in journalism – from the university classroom to the national stage – for over forty years. The CAJ offers members a chance to take part in an engaged community of journalists and to continue to grow in their profession.
We are dedicated to promoting excellence in journalism through a suite of professional development programs such as our annual national journalism conference, regional learning and networking opportunities, and our recurring mentorship program.
We speak on behalf of journalists, and in their interest, on matters including source protection, freedom of information and access to information, public disclosure, and diversity of voices. We speak in support of the highest-quality journalism.
We update and maintain the CAJ’s widely cited Ethics Guidelines, which are intended to help both seasoned professionals and new journalists to hold themselves accountable for professional work.
We strictly abide by our own governance and bylaws and aim for complete transparency and accountability in all we do. This is done by providing copies of all minutes, financial statements, and policies, to our members and the public on our website.
