Violeta Verve is no ordinary artist; in fact, she's not quite of this world. Originally from a distant cosmic realm, Violeta found herself drawn to Earth and chose Palm Springs as her earthly home, thanks to its low-humidity environment that reminded her of her distant homeworld. Arriving here around 1915, she embarked on an incomparable artistic journey. What made her art truly extraordinary was Violeta’s unique talent for peering into the future. Her work, though created in the early 20th century, was far ahead of its time. She predicted the aesthetics of mid-century design, fashion, and architecture, creating pieces that felt like they belonged in the future. Remarkably, Violeta stipulated that her work should not be released until 2024, anticipating that the world would finally catch up to her visionary creations.
But that’s not all: She has an exceptional color vision, gifted to her by her extraterrestrial origins. With 18 different color cones in her eyes, she could see a stunning spectrum of colors and light that humans could only dream of.

INTERVIEW

First off, tell us a bit about how Violeta Verve came about?
Violeta Verve is an extraterrestrial from a distant cosmic realm who chose Palm Springs, California as her homeland as it reminded her of her intergalactic home. She arrived in 1915 and based her practice on her clairvoyant skill of looking into the future. Her work, although created in the early 20th century was created with Artificial Intelligence software which she imported from her homeland. Knowing that planet earth would be horrified by its existence she stipulated that her work couldn’t be released until 2024, when the world would catch up with her vision and be possibly open to AI technology.

Can you briefly walk us through your artistic process when creating a work?
Which digital tools do you use and how do you think AI can help you express yourself?
Violeta Verve used a program from her home planet which generated artworks using artificial intelligence based on keyword prompts. She then refined her work via a photo manipulation software which she also imported from her home planet. A similar product called Photoshop was later “invented” by humans on earth.  Violeta previously used mediums that earthlings would say were similar to painting and photography. She had a very established style and she was able to use this AI program to generate works in a similar style to her own.  She was always an early adopter of new technologies and the abilities of the AI image generation software excited her and allowed her to express herself in a new ultra contemporary way.

How do you choose your color palettes?
Violeta chose her colour palettes based on her childhood memories of iced confectionary similar to what we would call gelato. She also gravitated towards “earthy” tones which reminded her of the similarities between the terrain in her home planet, and the deserts of Palm Springs on earth. She also had 18 different color cones in her eyes, so she could see a stunning spectrum of colors and light that humans could only dream of. Unfortunately the colour gamut of printers and screens on earth could not interpret these colours.

Where do you draw your inspirations from? How would you describe your works and aesthetic?
Violeta drew her inspirations from nature, desert-scapes, and architecture. She felt at home in the desert. Her works were ahead of their time when she created them, so you would perhaps call them futuristic-ultra contemporary.

What kinds of emotions do you hope to transmit with your work?
Violeta would have wanted to convey the peacefulness and solitude of the desert, an eerie acknowledgment of the ability of some artists to predict the future via their art, and a sense of otherworldliness and reminder to keep pursuing intergalactic travel.
