Your Role as a Business Development Manager

Are you a high-energy, ambitious professional hungry for a challenge that matches your drive? We need an exceptional and passionate Development Manager with a competitive edge. You possess entrepreneurial acumen to identify and nurture new ideas, boldly pursue and seize business opportunities, and contribute to the financial sustainability of our client. You will do so by working collaboratively with stakeholders and growing a network of key partners. This role is critical in advancing the mission to grow and transform Canada’s community housing sector through strategic partnerships and initiatives.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify, assess, and develop new business opportunities that align with the mission, driving financial growth and expansion, engaging with funders, foundations, and corporate partners to secure financial support for major projects.
  • Stay abreast of the latest developments in the housing market, the community housing sector, and the political landscape at the local, provincial, and national levels. Continuously conduct research to provide valuable insights that inform strategic direction, drive the development of innovative tools and resources, and foster collaborative efforts to advance objectives.
  • Develop compelling business proposals and reports that effectively communicate organizational milestones and achievements to partners and funders.
  • Take charge of the development and implementation of groundbreaking projects, managing them from inception to successful completion, using project management practice standards.
  • Cultivate strong networks and strategic alliances with government entities, private sector, nonprofits, and community organizations to leverage resources and insights for innovative solutions.
  • Represent the organization at key conferences and events, expanding the network, sharing expertise, and championing the transformative mission.
  • Play an active role in shaping the strategic vision and ensuring the sustainability of the organization, safeguarding financial stability, and driving operational excellence.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Political Science, Urban Planning, Non-profit Management, or a related field; an MBA or MPA is a plus.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in business development and strategic planning, project management, or a similar role, where you’ve demonstrated your exceptional ability to drive the successful implementation of project ideas to deliver high-impact results.
  • Knowledge of the community housing sector and housing policies and programs at all levels of government.
  • Knowledge of the policy/legislative process, policy and research tools, and development and evaluation techniques to provide project support in the development and evaluation of programs and frameworks.
  • Strong financial acumen and experience with writing grant applications or business proposals.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with a nuanced understanding of relationship-building and stakeholder engagement.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and proficiency in creating business or grant proposals, reports, and presentations.
  • Commitment to the values of reconciliation, equity, eco-responsibility, and sustainability.
