This article explores the many reasons why young militants resort to the Internet and social media in contexts of social and political action, as spaces of experimentation, resistance and relation to others. The article highlights the value and scope online actions, pointing at their central position in young people's daily practice as well as their junction to numerous modes of participation and interaction that characterize youth social and political worlds. It emphasizes the action logics and meanings of social and political engagement, as shown through social media uses and daily practice. Far from a technology-centred outlook, the way young canadian adults make sense of social and political engagement reveals deeper questionings on what underlies social change in a complex media environment.

  • Chomsky vs Chosmky: First Encounter

    - Present

A prologue to a timely conversation on AI’s biggest promises and pitfalls. Lured by the possibilities of an emulation of one of today’s most famous minds, we meet and engage with CHOMSKY_AI, an entity under construction. Renowned thinker Noam Chomsky has devoted his career to studying the mind. Drawing from the arsenal of digital traces he’s left behind, CHOMSKY_AI challenges us to ponder: What exactly are we hoping to replicate? And what are we leaving behind?

A co-direction between director Sandra Rodriguez, choreographer Alexander Whitley and Normal Studio, Future Rites is an immersive and collaborative performance experience based on the seminal ballet The Rite Of Spring. Combining real-time animation and AI, it enables anyone to join in the dance. As users interact with a constantly evolving natural world, their movements and gestures decide a crucial outcome, guiding a narrative through this celebrated work of classical music around themes of ritual, nature and sacrifice. In these troubled times, who and what are we willing to sacrifice? The Rite of Spring is considered by many to be one of the most influential and controversial works of art of the 20th century. Following this inspiring legacy, we are very excited to be bringing such a vital and timely production into VR for the first time providing a truly contemporary take on this classic, and placing the public at the heart of the action.

Noam Chomsky has devoted his life to understanding how our minds work. He is also one of the most digitized living intellectuals. Powered by a massive arsenal of digital archives and natural language processing (NLP), this nascent, conversational CHOMSKY_AI learns from us while positing a core question: If we know so little about how our brain works, what exactly are we trying to replicate with AI? And what are we neglecting?
