  • A Mathematical Formulation for Prediction of The Isotropic Compression Behavior of Cemented Soils

The 4th International Conference on Geotechnical Engineering and Soil Mechanics, Tehran, Iran

A number of constitutive models have been presented for evaluating the mechanical behavior of cemented soils. However, majority of them deal with their shear behavior. In this paper, a mathematical formulation is presented for predicting the isotropic compression behavior of cemented soils. A number of constitutive models have been presented for evaluating the mechanical behavior of cemented soils. However, majority of them deal with their shear behavior. In this paper, a mathematical formulation is presented for predicting the isotropic compression behavior of cemented soils. For this purpose, the compression behavior of cemented soil is divided into two distinct parts, soil matrix and cemented bonds. Using critical state theory, the mathematical model for soil matrix derived. Also a formulation is suggested for the isotropic compressive strength of cemented bonds. Both parts combined together based on deformation consistency and energy conservation. The model is compared with different sets of experimental data presented by other researchers for verification. Results of comparison shows its satisfactory predictions for isotropic compression behavior of cemented soils.
