Data from DMM / ShoppingCenters.com also reflect 282 regional and super-regional malls in the U.S. and Canada are currently in some stage of redevelopment. And perhaps no industry has been more impacted in the immediate term than Retail – an industry which was already in upheaval with the rise of eCommerce, Amazon and other rapid changes in technology and consumer behaviour.
We spoke about:
a) What retail leaders are seeing on the ground, both in terms of consumer behaviour and operational changes.
b) The pressure faced by retailers in a time of increased demand for certain consumer products.
c) The way that retailers can respond, in the short, medium and long term – and how this dovetails with opportunities for larger transformations that will make them more nimble and competitive in the future.

This "Draft Report" looks at some of the short range difficulties facing consumers and retailers alike and navigates one potential course of many which may develop through to 2021.
Depending on the severity of the current lock down period (which itself depends on Canadians taking our current situation seriously and applying personal hygiene disciplines and social distancing), could lead to an extended period of uncertainty which many retailers, who struggled throughout 2019 with profitability and relevancy, will not sustain.
It is an unprecedented period in Canadian retailing history we are entering. Many components of what we knew to be true and could be relied upon up until yesterday will start to reshape. We will have to unlearn many lessons and paradigms which have been historically successful, but now may be irrelevant to the challenges in getting to 2021 and beyond. -

Designing in efficiency during concept, and optimising extended supply chain performance is key to sustaining business profitability
Inventory management and reducing “cost per case” are constant pressure points creating financial and operational stress for many companies. Understanding the “why” at SKU level can help remove much rework, waste and extra costs. Too little inventory can result in out of stocks, customer dissatisfaction and even permanent customer loss; too much means tying up operational cashflow, space and risks obsolescence.
Long term business profitability can depend on correctly designing the end to end supply chain for optimal efficiency/productivity so all partners win, rather than optimising parts of the value chain for a suboptimal whole.
Effective inventory management and warehouse design principles can free up valuable warehouse and supply chain capacity, improving "speed to market", profitability and brand loyalty.
In this presentation, you’ll learn about where organizations can benefit from a renewed focus on the value of inventory and warehouse efficiency, to challenge traditional methods and to take a wider view of the extended supply chain to benefit the customer. -
