MMDF’s Impact: Manitoba Now 6th Best Place for Mining Investment Worldwide The Fraser Institute released its Annual Survey of Mining Companies report last week which highlighted the positive changes in the Manitoba mineral industry over the last few years. The report ranked Manitoba sixth in the world in the Investment Attractiveness Index which combines both the geological potential and the policy environment of a jurisdiction. Manitoba, now the third ranked province, made significant steps in recent years climbing from ninth in Canada only a few years ago driven by policy updates that have made investment more appealing. Manitoba’s climb up the report rankings also coincides with the introduction of the Manitoba Mineral Development Fund (MMDF) an initiative of the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce which provides support for strategic projects aimed at advancing mineral exploration and development in the province. MMDF was established in 2019 with a $20-million injection of funds from the Province of Manitoba. Read more: https://lnkd.in/dvK4AFvG

And just like that, #FNMPC2024 is over. A few highlights for me from the last day of the conference: The release of the National Indigenous Electrification Strategy is a key highlight for Canada. As First Nations Major Projects Coalition has said many times, "The only road to net zero is through Indigenous lands." JP Gladu BScF MBA ICD.D with a great quote: "We've traditionally enjoyed low cost electricity prices but it's been on the backs of Indigenous communities." I think of growing up back home with 3.2 cents kwh because of Churchill Falls and the Innu only getting an agreement in place in 2011. Also he had a good discussion about royalty vs. equity for communities. Ultimately it's about community needs on what path they choose. During Mark Carney speech, the moderator Jaimie Lickers had a great quote about Indigenous communities: "We want to be at the table, not just on the menu." Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland had a great conversation with Mark Podlasly ICD.D about the Government of Canada's Indigenous loan guarantee program. It's a great announcement for Canada and will undoubtedly unlock $Billions in investment for Indigenous-led and owned projects in our country. Mark reflected during the conversation that "people said we wouldn't get it done." Lesson learned for the doubters - don't bet against the team at First Nations Major Projects Coalition. Finally, what an incredible and inspirational presentation from Chana Martineau BA, ICD.D who is the CEO of the Alberta Indigenous Opportunities Corporation. $680M in loan guarantees, unlocking $1.5B in investments. Initial commitment of $1B and now gone to $3B. Just in Alberta. Oh and no impaired loan since they were created. She shared an incredibly moving video that they only released yesterday so pop over to her page as I'm sure she will be sharing it (if not already!). Final overall thoughts on #FNMPC2024 - this is the most informing, relevant conference I've ever attended for Indigenous-Industry partnerships. Looking forward to attending next year and hearing about the success stories of the Indigenous loan guarantee program. It was so great to represent Rio Tinto, along with many of my colleagues who are deeply committed to economic reconciliation. Let's get building!

TRU Precious Metals Corp. (TSXV:TRU) (“TRU” or the “Company”) is pleased to announce its intent to carry out an exploration program this spring and summer at its Golden Rose Project (“Golden Rose”) in Western-Central Newfoundland. Exploration will assess the critical minerals potential associated with the deposit-bearing Cape Ray – Valentine Lake Shear Zone and will be copper (“Cu”)-focused. The program will also investigate other critical minerals occurrences hosting nickel (“Ni”) and zinc (“Zn”), which have been identified in previous exploration activities carried out by the Company. The objective of the exploration program is to develop a deeper understanding of the overall critical minerals potential at Golden Rose, supplementing the heightened prospectivity of Golden Rose for gold. While it's only day 1 of the #FNMPC2024 conference, it's quite clear as to why this is Canada's premiere conference for Indigenous-Industry partnerships. A few notable quotes from today: "It's time to do things differently. It's time to be bold." "Chief Gale and FNMPC are bringing the country together." - RBC CEO Dave McKay Dawn Madahbee Leach stressed the importance of 7 generations thinking (versus business quarter to quarter). She also spoke about the importance of the need for Indigenous Peoples on Boards, in management and in other decision-making roles within companies. Mark Cutifani - "If you rely on the law on what the basis of an agreement should be, it's an unstable basis to be building a project on. Laws can easily change. Go beyond the law." Peter Bryant quoted Matthew Coon Come in speaking about the Duty to Consult - "Consultation is insulting. Let's talk about participation." Jennifer C. Constant, CIL - "We had mining in our territory and the companies didn't even know who we were." Greg Rickford - "You heard from the Premier (Doug Ford) this morning - we are not moving forward with projects without consensus and support from communities." Ahead of PwC Canada’s launch of the 2023 BC Mine Report, Mining Association of BC President & CEO, Michael Goehring joined Martin Turenne from FPX Nickel Corp, Carolina Mendes and Sarah Marsh from PwC Canada for a preview of the report’s findings and an interactive panel discussion about the current and future state of mining in BC. Highlights from the panel included: -BC and Canada are primed to become world-leading suppliers of critical minerals and metals. The key obstacle to seizing this generational opportunity is lengthy and uncertain timelines for permitting and approvals that stymie investment decisions and slow project development. -First Nations partnerships and participation are markers of success for development projects and the industry as a whole. -ESG considerations remain important in business and investment decisions as regulators consider the inclusion of climate-related risks in financial reporting.   We look forward to the report going live at the end of the week, both to celebrate and conclude #MiningMonth. At AME, we continuously promote sustainability initiatives among our employees, at our offices and throughout our involvement in all our projects. Working with us on this is Helen Lankester, Project Coordinator + Carbon Analysts in our Edmonton office. Q: What drew you to AME and this role? A: When I heard AME was opening a new office in Edmonton a few years back I applied for the position because I heard it was a company who listened to their employees, had a driven task force, and was committed to sustainable practices. I had no idea it would be even better! AME wanted to reduce carbon emissions not only through sustainable mechanical design but also in their daily operations. So that is where I started, accounting for our operational emissions. I am very proud of the efforts every team puts into making the building sector a better one. Q: AME has five Employee-led Teams, are you in any and why did you choose to join that one? A: I am part of the Sustainability Team. In my personal life I try to live sustainably - we have lowered animal product consumption in our house, especially red meat, we buy second hand things or buy local, so as soon as the Sustainability Team was suggested I was eager to be part of it to find new ideas and solutions for the place I work in! In our meetings, we share ideas on how to reduce energy consumption in our offices and other sustainable practices that will align with our corporate ESG. I have found new knowledge, and it is great to share time and conversations with people who are trying to make our workplace and community a better place. Q: What can’t you live without? A: I think I can live without many things, not a lot to make me happy! But family is the most important thing there is, so I couldn’t live without free time to spend it with them.
