  • Session Announcement! 🌟 We're thrilled to introduce Annie Lee, Assistant Professor at Ontario Tech University and University of Toronto, who will be presenting on the innovative ProxyLM framework at our upcoming event! Performance prediction is crucial for estimating the effectiveness of Language Models (LMs) on various NLP tasks, helping to manage the computational costs associated with model capacity and data for fine-tuning. En-Shiun Annie Lee's groundbreaking paper introduces ProxyLM, a scalable framework that leverages proxy models as surrogates to predict LM performance on multilingual tasks. Key Takeaways: - Efficiency: Learn how ProxyLM can achieve up to a 37.08× speedup in task evaluations compared to traditional methods. - Adaptability: Discover how ProxyLM outperforms the state-of-the-art by 1.89× in RMSE for previously unseen languages in pre-trained LMs. - Cost-Effectiveness: Understand the benefits of using smaller, cheaper-to-fine-tune models to gauge the performance of larger, more expensive LMs. - Model Selection: Explore how this framework streamlines model selection, enabling efficient deployment and iterative enhancements without extensive computational resources. En-Shiun Annie Lee is an Assistant Professor at OntarioTech University and the University of Toronto (status-only). She leads the Lee Language Lab (L^3), focusing on language diversity and multilinguality. Her work has been published in prestigious journals like Nature Digital Medicine and ACM Computing Surveys. 📅 Register now to gain insights into the cutting-edge ProxyLM framework: https://lnkd.in/g6EEsEc
