Congratulations to the mine rescue teams, including those from Teck, for showcasing their emergency response skills at the 66th Annual Provincial Mine Rescue and First Aid Competition at the Britannia Mine Museum near Squamish, B.C. These teams are the ultimate multi-taskers, acting as their operation’s firefighters, paramedics, and high-angle rescue experts. They have also stepped up to help their communities in times of need, including during the Lladnar Creek and Mount Bingay wildfires in B.C.’s Elk Valley last year. At Teck, safety is a core value, and we deeply appreciate their hard work and dedication to keeping everyone safe. Thank you! https://lnkd.in/gGN7Zhwf

In honour of both Indigenous History Month and Pride in June, Teck commissioned artwork from Kayla Phillips Washington, an artist of Nlaka’pamux and Tsilhqot’in heritage from Nooaitch Indian Band. At its center is a turtle, symbolizing Turtle Island, adorned with four directional colors. Inside the turtle, rainbow hues represent inclusivity and mindfulness towards the 2SLGBTQ+ community. Kayla says “I have also included Nlaka’pamux language in my piece. It’s a Nlaka’pamux quote that has stuck with me when I think of my nation, ‘We are strong,’ because we are strong people.”

“Teck Chile’s employee group PRIZMA was created to promote a safe workplace and a space where 2SLGBTQ+ employees and allies can share ideas, receive professional development, and build a sense of community—with the goal of fostering an environment where every employee feels respected and included. Since its inception, PRIZMA has undertaken several initiatives to promote Teck’s values of respect and inclusion, such as organizing talks that emphasize respect, empathy and courageous leadership. The group has also been actively involved in training workshops aimed at raising awareness and building skills related to diversity and inclusion.”

Today marks National Indigenous Peoples Day in Chile, a day to celebrate the rich cultures, traditions and contributions of Indigenous Peoples in both countries and around the world. In Chile, in collaboration with the Quechua community of Ollagüe, we will protect 5,800 hectares of wetlands in the Alconcha Salt Flat (Salar de Alconcha) Conservation Area, located 4,123 meters above sea level, as part of our efforts to achieve a net positive impact on biodiversity. An Indigenous Stewardship Fund has also been created for the development of environmental stewardship initiatives focused on Indigenous Peoples.
