Canada’s leading support organization for small and medium enterprises in the food processing industry.
About us
The SSFPA is a national non-profit association of processors, growers, and suppliers of food and agricultural products. We help our members grow their businesses and expand local economies. The SSFPA provides: * Resources: training courses, educational materials, and exclusive benefits through our partner organizations. * Networking: a vibrant community of over 300 businesses across Canada who share their experiences, advice, and expertise. * Advocacy: Policy recommendations for the Canadian food processing sector that address barriers to growth for small businesses. In 2018, we launched the SSFPA’s Women’s Initiative, funded by Women and Gender Equality Canada, working to uncover the issues within the food processing industry that disproportionately affect women entrepreneurs. In 2023, funded by the WES Inclusive Venture Capital Initiative, the SSFPA launched Venture-Capital Ready: Investment Training for Women Entrepreneurs. This is an exciting new training initiative to help women/intersectional entrepreneurs prepare to scale their businesses with venture capital.

🛒 Breaking Food News: All major grocery retailers in Canada have now agreed to support the upcoming Grocery Sector Code of Conduct. In a statement, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada said, "After years of work and widespread industry participation, we are pleased to announce that all major retailers have agreed to join the Grocery Sector Code of Conduct. This includes Loblaw, Sobeys and Metro, and most recently, Walmart and Costco." This agreement took place during the annual meeting of the Federal, Provincial and Territorial Ministers of Agriculture, which aims to identify key issues facing the agriculture sector. The Grocery Sector Code of Conduct seeks to promote fairness and transparency in the grocery sector, through a set of principles governing proper behavior in the marketplace. Independent grocers say the code will help ensure access to food supply for its retailers, many of which are in rural or small communities. With the support from major retailers, the code is expected to fully launch in 2025. Learn more about the code here: https://canadacode.org/ #foodprocessing #grocery #foodnews

Who are the women in our food sector? Women are key in producing food and ensuring food security, yet they are largely invisible. To raise awareness about them, we are interviewing women in farmer’s markets to learn what they do and why.
