We’re pleased to welcome new analysts into our global Analyst Rotation Program! Slate’s Analyst Rotation Program offers young career professionals an opportunity to learn real estate fundamentals while gaining exposure to a range of career paths within the industry. Over the course of two years, our global and diversified platform enables program participants to complete placements across separate areas of our business, working closely with and learning alongside all levels of the Slate team. This year, we’re joined by analysts from Indiana University Bloomington, Cornell University, Queen's University, Western University, and Wilfrid Laurier University. Welcome to the Slate team!

Our Toronto Slate Service Team recently participated in Second Harvest’s ‘Feeding Our Future’ program! ‘Feeding Our Future’ is Canada’s largest summer lunch program that addresses the issue of ‘summer hunger’ by providing nutritious lunches to children throughout the summer months. During our service day, we prepared 2,516 nourishing sandwiches for summer campers to ensure children across the Greater Toronto Area have access to healthy food options. Last week, Slate was recognized by The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) for ‘Excellence in Student Development’ at the 2024 Careers Celebration Evening, for the ‘Introduction to Real Assets’ course taught by Slate’s London team during the 2023-2024 academic year. We are proud to provide training and development opportunities to help students and early career professionals learn valuable real estate fundamentals. The ‘Introduction to Real Assets’ course is a series of four seminars introducing LSE students to investing in real assets. Since leading this course, Slate has hired current LSE students as summer interns in our London office. Congratulations to the Slate London team and to all other award recipients! 

2023 provided a unique and dynamic backdrop for our journey towards deepening ESG integration – one full of new challenges and fresh opportunities. The ESG landscape continued to evolve at a rapid pace, with regulators, investors, lenders, and tenants increasingly focusing on ESG factors. In that context, we sharpened our focus on sustainability and resiliency to meet evolving and increasingly complex ESG mandates and deliver on the needs and expectations of our many stakeholders. Corktown – our design-forward, mixed-use condo development in Hamilton, ON – is an award-winning project! Corktown’s brochure designed by Vanderbrand won best brochure at the 2024 Communication Arts Design Competition, which recognizes creativity, innovation, and excellence across various mediums, including brand identity, print, digital, and environmental design. We’re celebrating the start of the season with a host of summertime activities for the many tenants across our portfolio. From a summer Sangria Workshop, where tenants mixed their own sangria cocktails guided by a wine sommelier, to a Pasta Workshop, where we invited two renowned chefs to teach the art of Cavatelli pasta making, we’re serving up fresh flavors and seasonal fun. To keep active this summer, we’re offering weekly exercise classes at select properties on ‘Wellness Thursdays,’ where tenants can participate in a mix of low-impact workouts and high-intensity cardio sessions. Slate’s Steelport development has received an Azure Magazine 2024 award in the ‘Urban Design Unbuilt Developments’ category for PUBLIC WORK's comprehensive "hybrid place" concepts that will weave together the site’s industrial heritage with the promise of a productive future. At roughly 800 acres, Steelport is an inventive reimagining of an urban waterfront in Hamilton, Ontario, that will give access and opportunity back to people and the city and connect the region to the world. We are extremely proud of our entire project team for putting forward a bold and ambitious vision to reinvent this one-of-a-kind site!

Last week, we hosted our first Public Open House for Steelport, our 800-acre industrial development in Hamilton, ON! Convening members of the local Hamilton community and beyond, we shared our vision for the project and received feedback from the surrounding community on our application for a Draft Plan of Subdivision – which outlines key details for the world-class industrial park.
