At Samuel, we love to see people grow their careers with us. Whether that’s through on-site training, external courses or joining the team right out of school, we’re always looking for new ways to help our team members advance. That’s why we were thrilled to have the chance to collaborate with the Cartersville-Bartow County Chamber of Commerce and local high schools in #Georgia to give students the chance to network and learn more about our industry. We were even able to offer one a job! Ashton Warhola, one of the program’s participants, recently graduated and has joined the #SamuelPackagingSystemsGroup team as a machine operator in #Cartersville. “I first learned about #Samuel through the school I attended, Bartow Adult Career and Academy,” shares Ashton. “After completing my interview and gaining a deeper understanding of the company and the job, I knew I wanted to work at Samuel.” Of his time with us so far, he adds: “I enjoy the work environment and the people I am with, being able to work at my own pace and having a set schedule. I would, and have, recommended Samuel as a great place to work – the hours are consistent and the environment is welcoming.” Interested in learning more about #LifeatSamuel? Here at #Samuel, we are always looking for new opportunities to be industry leaders, offering our #customers a service they can’t find anywhere else. One of the ways we do this is through investing in new, modern facilities that embrace the latest technology. With this in mind, we are pleased to share that construction on our new location in #Mexicali, Mexico is complete and we shipped our first order to customers at the end of June! This 350,000+ square foot, state-of-the-art greenfield location is an expansion of Sierra Aluminum, our industry-leading extrusion business, based out of California. This new facility will house a range of automated, top-of-the-line extrusion and finishing equipment, including 2 extrusion presses and an anodizing line. Built with the future in mind, it also has space for 2 additional extrusion presses and a vertical paint line. These investments will significantly grow our extrusion, anodizing and paint capacity. As part of our #SafetyMonth celebrations in June, our team at Sierra Aluminum was pleased to welcome President & CEO, Colin Osborne, to celebrate their great safety results in 2023 and discuss ways #Sierra, and the rest of #Samuel, can continue to improve their approach to safety in 2024. Following Colin’s presentation, he joined the team for lunch, meeting as many of the 80 employees as possible and learning more about daily site operations at our aluminum extrusions business, which provides products and services across a number of end markets, including #building and #construction, #solar, #distribution and #automotive. “It was exciting to have the CEO visit,” shares Margie Orozco-Gilliland, Director, Human Resources. “People really enjoyed Colin’s presentation and appreciated the opportunity to talk to him one on one.” In addition to discussing safety with Colin, the team also has several other safety-focused activities planned over the coming weeks, including training, evacuation drills and health and wellness events. Safety is always a top priority at Samuel, but every June, we celebrate #HealthandSafety month across the organization, so that we can recognize teams for their accomplishments and focus on new ways to improve #safety across the business. This year, President & CEO, Colin Osborne, travelled to our Service Center in Los Angeles to present a 2023 Top Safety Performing Facility award. This recognition was achieved by meeting a number of targets, including Zero DART, Zero Lost Time Accidents, Zero Medical Attention Injuries and a Zero Severity Rate. "Our team was excited to have Colin visit,” says General Manager, Robert Vieira. “It shows that our CEO values the work being done and wants to see it firsthand. This award has given our facility a real sense of pride and accomplishment.” Colin joined the team for a breakfast celebration and the chance to see them in action. In addition to practicing safe work habits, the team also distributes stainless and aluminum products and offers flat-rolled, plate and bar processing to customers in Southern California, Nevada and Arizona. May was another busy month for #TeamSamuel, with a range of fun social events taking place across the US, Canada and Mexico. First up is our team at Sierra Aluminum in California, who celebrated Cinco De Mayo on May 5 with a team lunch and the chance to win Samuel swag. Meanwhile, our team in Southern Ontario came together for a Murder Mystery night, which included dinner, watching the show and successfully identifying the murderer. We’d like to give a special shoutout to Zach Jennings, Coordinator, Purchasing, Automotive, from Hamilton, ON, who won the game and took home the grand prize. Lastly, in Hermosillo, Mexico, more than 50 team members and their families celebrated #FamilyDay with a visit to a local water park, where they enjoyed rides, games and delicious food. As part of our commitment to #ContinousImprovement, our team at Samuel Automation has been finding new ways to improve safety, operate more efficiently and increase quality by embracing technology. One of our current projects is focused on developing four robots to unload coils for our Samuel Packaging Systems Group, increasing safety, ergonomics and speed. Testing has just wrapped for the end of arm tool, which is what allows the robots to grab the coils. Prior to development, a 3D scan of the coil system was conducted to mirror real conditions as accurately as possible. As a result, testing achieved a 95% success rate, meaning only minor changes need to be made before the robots will be fully operational. Watch our video to see this technology in action compared to our current process: https://lnkd.in/ghEPpFEs To learn how Samuel Automation can help you achieve your business goals, please click here: https://lnkd.in/gcYaZrEs To learn more about this project, please click here: https://lnkd.in/gtZey69u
