Park People connects people and communities with the tools they need to create great parks for everyone.
About us
Park People connects people and communities with the tools they need to create great parks for everyone. Park People is the only national, bilingual organization solely dedicated to championing city parks in Canada. Since 2011, we’ve collaborated with thousands of community leaders, non-profit park organizations, and park professionals to realize the incredible potential of our urban green spaces. Park People’s work is grounded in our core values of reciprocity, ecological integrity, and social equity. We believe that parks are vital to the health of Canada’s cities and our environment, and that everyone—regardless of their income, identity, ability, or age—deserves equal access to the benefits of public green space. We centre equity-deserving communities in our program planning and delivery, and we seek to foster deep relationships both with and between our collaborators. We also recognize the critical leadership role of Indigenous communities in protecting and restoring nature in our urban centres, and we seek to learn alongside them in their efforts.

From scorched to gorgeous: check out High Park's post-burn glow-up! #BeforeAndAfter Traditional and prescribed burns are a tool used to manage fire dependent ecosystems like prairies and savannahs. The black oak savannah in Toronto's High Park was burned this spring and staff are using photo monitoring to assess the success of the burn. Photos are taken at specific sites from the same vantage point over several weeks to observe changes to specific species growth, site response to burning, plant composition throughout the seasons, timing of plant growth, etc. This monitoring adds to field observations and helps to inform future management considerations. 10A is a management unit in the northeast quadrant of the park. These are the plant species that have been observed. 🌿 native species: Pearly everlasting (Anaphalis margaritacea) Common thimbleweed (Anemone virginiana) Common milkweed (Asclepias syriaca) Butterfly milkweed (Asclepias tuberosa) New Jersey tea (Ceanothus americanus) Woodland sunflower (Helianthus divaricatus) Paleleaf woodland sunflower (Helianthus strumosus) Wild bergamot (Monarda fistulosa) White pine (Pinus strobus) Cup-plant (Silphium perfoliatum) Canada goldenrod (Solidago canadensis) 🌾 non-native species: Smooth brome grass (Bromus inermis) Meadow buttercup (Ranunculus acris) Common figwort (Scrophularia nodosa) Red clover (Trifolium pratense) Image 1: April 10, 2024 - High Park traditional and prescribed burn Image 2: April 18, 2024 - High Park management area 10A Image 3: May 9, 2024 - High Park management area 10A Image 4: May 23, 2024 - High Park management area 10A Image 5: June 12, 2024 - High Park management area 10A

The Cathedral Village Forest Project in Regina is featured in CBC. They've planted 4,500 trees and shrubs and hosted a fun community planting day. As first-time TD Park People Grants recipients, we're so proud of what they've achieved. "Establishing an urban forest here will create new educational and recreational opportunities, as well as a habitat for local wildlife." Check it out! #Forest #parks #grants #TDParkPeopleGrants

Bonne lecture ! Free the Fern - Meewasin Valley Authority - Corridor écologique Darlington - TD - Parks Canada #parcs #intendance #environnement #santé #recherche #LaPromesseTDPrêtsÀAgir
