Last year, Loblaw launched “Ask for Angela” in partnership with Victim Services Toronto to help women facing violence across the GTA. Today, I’m pleased to share that we’ve joined forces with Women’s Crisis Services (WCSWR) of Waterloo Region to expand the “Ask for Angela” program across Waterloo. The program’s expansion really speaks to the urgency for safety and care that violence-affected women, gender-diverse individuals and children need. According to WCSWR, since 2020, there has been a marked increase in the level of violence and injury to victims who’ve been attended to at the Waterloo hospital.   We’re proud to be the first retailer in Canada to introduce “Ask for Angela”, and I’m confident this program’s remarkable ability will create a safer community in Waterloo.   How does it work? The program revolves around discreetly approaching staff members at participating Loblaw stores and requesting “Angela” as a code-phrase. This will signal to staff that the individual needs support. Women’s Crisis Services of Waterloo Region will be contacted for support.   Read the news release to learn more on how the program works and about WCSWR. https://lnkd.in/dJ8s962u

Today, we’re celebrating Atlantic Superstore 325 which has donated over 200,000 pounds of food in Q1, 2024 to L’Atelier R.A.D.O. Inc. in Edmundston, New Brunswick.  To acknowledge their exceptional efforts, Loblaw gave the store $5000 to be donated to their charity of choice. Congrats! for receiving this cheque.       Our store ATSS 325 has been working with L’Atelier R.A.D.O. Inc. for over 15 years to support our communities in need of food.       Every quarter we’ll be spotlighting a store from our network that has shown great quarterly results towards our Feed More Families™ program – a program with an ambitious goal of donating one billion pounds of food to community-based charities by 2028.      In 2023, we donated nearly 47 million pounds of food through this program. And we’re striving to do more this year. Kudos to the team! In our stores, offices or distribution centres, you may hear the term “Blue” Culture. This describes the culture we’ve been building over the past decade. A culture that strives for people to show up as their authentic self, build trust, and make connections. To improve the ways we work together, thousands of people have experienced a culture shaping workshop called b3 – better me, better we, and better Loblaw. It has helped improve open and honest communication, feedback and recognition, and sense of belonging. It allows each of us to bring our difference and make our difference, and helps to continue improving gender and racial diversity in our leadership ranks. Because of this, Waterstone has recognized Loblaw as having one of Canada’s Most Admired Corporate Cultures. Learn more about our people and culture at Loblaw.ca https://lnkd.in/eDd2FZsv . Fighting climate change and advancing social equity at Loblaw Companies Ltd.

While ‘SBTi’ may not mean a lot to most people, in the ESG world, it carries a lot of weight. The Science Based Targets initiative, or SBTi, is a global corporate climate action organization that helps companies and financial institutions effectively combat the climate crisis. They support companies with setting greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets that align with broader efforts to keep global temperatures below catastrophic levels and with achieving net-zero by 2050. Today I am pleased to share that the SBTi has approved Loblaw Companies Ltd.’s near-term science-based emissions reduction targets. This approval relates to two of our carbon-related targets: •                   We commit to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 50% by 2030 from a 2020 base year. •                   We commit that 70% of our suppliers by spend covering purchased goods and services will have science-based targets by 2027. You can read more about our net-zero plan here: https://lnkd.in/gZAWPfAm This is a significant milestone on our path towards net-zero and I want to sincerely thank those who made this happen - Tom Marson, Twish Mehta, MSE, P.Eng., PMP, Alain Brandon, Melanie Agopian, MBA, Gabriella Carrier, your hard work and dedication to this cause is making a real impact on our path to fight climate change and help Canadians Live Life Well®

CEO & President, Loblaw Companies Limited

Had to test drive our new electric truck.. I am back in the beautiful city of Vancouver, visiting with our colleagues in our Pitt Meadows distribution centre. As you can see, the team provided me the opportunity to check out one of our 10 brand new electric transport vehicles operating out of our Pitt Meadows facility. These vehicles are beautiful and so important to our goal of decarbonizing our transport fleet and we have ordered another 25. Our team operates these trucks day and night, averaging 220km per trip, and most importantly they take more than 86,000kg of C02 out of the environment per vehicle! We have as well ordered 5 hydrogen truck to our transport fleet for long-haul trips. On our journey to fight climate change, we aim to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2040, and it will take big and small steps across our organization to get there. I am so grateful to the teams operating our distribution centres. Without their support to our stores we wouldn’t be able to fulfill our mission of helping Canadians Live Life Well. Tomorrow I will visit DC’s in Edmonton and Regina.
