Did you hear IDEA's President, Chelsey Jersak on CBC this week? Chelsey talks with Mark about how Edmonton's neighborhoods are evolving. Mark looks to learn more about mortgage helpers, infrastructure capacity, and the demand for #infill in #Edmonton. Don't skip the episode, as you'll also hear about one of Chelsey and Mark's favorite hidden coffee shops located in a commercial infill project! #cip2024 #infillconnect #edmontoninfill #redevelopment #commericalinfill
I had the pleasure of joining Mark Connolly on CBC's Edmonton AM this morning to discuss the evolution of infill in Edmonton, with a spotlight on backyard suites, and what I like to call the "Edmonton Special"—fourplexes with basement suites. We also highlighted the importance of neighbourhood commercial spaces, using the Calder Hub as a prime example. While infill development is often seen as contentious, it is actually a solution to a significant problem. Neighbourhoods are always changing, and in many of them, populations have decreased over the years as household sizes have shrunk and children have grown up and moved away. Infill is a crucial process of neighbourhood renovation and renewal, helping communities stay vibrant and healthy in the long term. Thank you to the CBC team for having me in and for shining a light on this vital aspect of urban development. If you missed it, you can listen to the interview here: https://lnkd.in/evnWSvxm #UrbanPlanning #InfillDevelopment #Edmonton #yeg #yeginfill #yegdevelopment #yegurbanplanning #yegcommunity #CommunityBuilding #SustainableGrowth #Situate
