During this month, let us as HR professionals recommit to creating Indigenized workplaces. This involves valuing Indigenous perspectives and incorporating Indigenous ways of knowing and doing. Tomorrow is June 1st which marks the start of Pride Month. Pride Month is a vibrant and inclusive celebration that honours the LGBTQ2+ community, their history, achievements, and ongoing struggle for equality. This annual event serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of acceptance, diversity, and love. It brings together individuals, organizations, and communities to advocate for LGBTQ2+ rights and celebrate the progress made toward a more inclusive society. Pride Month started after the Stonewall Uprising, which occurred in New York City in June 1969. It was a turning point in the LGBTQ2+ rights movement, sparked by a series of protests against police harassment and discrimination. The following year, the first Pride marches were organized to commemorate the anniversary of the uprising. Pride Month serves as a reminder that the fight for LGBTQ+ rights is ongoing. It encourages individuals and communities to advocate for legal protections against discrimination, work towards inclusive policies and legislation, and challenge societal prejudices that continue to marginalize LGBTQ2+ individuals. It’s an opportunity to come together and celebrate the vibrant diversity of the LGBTQ2+ community. By participating in Pride Month events, supporting LGBTQ2+ organizations, and advocating for equality, we can contribute to a more inclusive and accepting society. Let us embrace the spirit of Pride Month, stand alongside the LGBTQ2+ community, and work towards a world where love, acceptance, and equal rights are celebrated by all. 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜 #loveislove #happypridemonth2024

The sunshine and warm weather are finally here which means … summer is coming! Bring on the BBQS, sunshine and outdoor activities with family and friends! With the start of summer upon us. We want to know how you feel about Summer hours. Summer hours are a type of employee benefit aimed to attract and retain top talent. But what are summer hours and how can they help your company? Summer hours are an employee benefit offered to employees to reduce the amount of time spent in the office during the summer months. These summer special schedules generally commence after Canada Day and end with Labor Day. There are many benefits to offering summer hours to employees ☀️ They give your employees flexibility 🌻 They increase company morale. ☀️ They increase productivity 🌻They encourage a healthy work-life balance ☀️ They help eliminate stress 🌻 They improve employee health ☀️ They show your employees that you trust them Here are some things you should consider when creating a summer hours program: ⌚ Timing: Begin with deciding when your summer program will commence and end 📈 Business demands: Think about your daily and weekly business demands as you plan a flexible schedule 👥 Team input: Survey your workers to learn their expectations from summer hours. Ask them what sort of flexibility will suit them. 📅 Schedule: Depending on the workflow and what your employees suggest, chalk out a new work routine 📊Start slow and evaluate: Implement your new schedule for a set duration, say a month, and monitor employee productivity to see if it works 🥇Expectations: Make it clear to your team that some of them or, in case needed, all of them may have to forego their summer hours at times as per business demands Do you agree with implementing summer hours for companies? Answer this week's poll! #summerhours #worklifebalance #companyculture #morale #humanresources #HRPATO

Yesterday was the National Day of Mourning, a dedicated day to honour and pay tribute to those who have tragically lost their lives, suffered injuries, or fallen ill while at work. It’s also a day to collectively renew our commitment to improving health and safety in the workplace and to preventing further injuries, illnesses and deaths. This day holds special significance each year on April 28th, serving as a reminder of the importance of workplace safety and well-being. As HR professionals ensuring the safety and protection of all workers in their respective workplaces is at the core of our mission. In 2023, Ontario witnessed 91 traumatic fatalities and 169 occupational disease fatalities, highlighting the ongoing need for improved safety measures. Let us honour the memory of those we have lost and renew our commitment to creating safer work environments for everyone. “The National Day of Mourning is an opportunity to create awareness about workplace safety and reminds us to renew our commitment to ensure every worker goes home safe and healthy at the end of the workday.” - Anne Tennier, President and Chief Executive Officer, Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS)
