Leadership is not a solo game; you don't need to do it alone. Early in my career, I was guilty of not necessarily being a team player. Seek a win-win environment or you will garner a reputation for being difficult to work with (which you don't want, trust me).

That is the worst hiring regret I've ever made ... I was desperate to fill a particular role in a company I was working for. There was some internal pressure to fill a role. We posted for the position and received several intriguing applications. All the candidates differed significantly in terms of their experience and background and, more importantly, how much they wanted in terms of compensation. Our first choice was an exceptional candidate and would have been a fantastic addition to the team, elevating our work. We decided to compromise and go not with our second or third choice but our fourth choice because of money. I compromised to save money, choosing the cheapest candidate, who ended up being a nightmare to work with, all drama with little value. After this person left the business, we realized we made a HUGE mistake costing us a lot more than we anticipated. It cost us more in the long run, compromising putting out fires and dealing with unnecessary drama than hiring the top candidate. So, yes, they were initially outside our budget, but we could have made it work. Hindsight is 20/20.  Since that team, I have vowed never to compromise again. If my spidey sense is telling me something is off, or if they are willing to do it for the cheapest with questionable experiences, I won't hire them. Do you have any regrets about hiring?

Ever felt like you're just a cog in the machine? That you're being treated as a number, not a person?  Welcome to the reality that is too common for many people.  If you are a leader of a team or business, know this - no one works for you. No one works for you despite what you may think and certainly despite what you say. Everyone works for themselves, pursuing their own interests, desires, and motivations. They work for a pay cheque.  They don't work for you. What's important is that leaders realize that there is no such thing as loyalty in today's world, and it goes both ways. Employees have options, such as building their own businesses or pursuing a freelancing or side hustle option. Treat your people like people, and you are more likely to retain them. Invest in your people and watch the ROI pay it back 10x. Let's connect if you need help to rethink and evolve your approach to managing your team.

When it comes to hiring, my favorite and most effective method is "try before you buy." 💼 Instead of relying on resumes and interviews, I prefer to allow potential candidates to show me what they can do by giving them a small project or task. This gives me a better idea of their skills, work ethic, and how they will fit in with the team. Not only does this method save time and resources, but it also increases the chances of finding the right fit for the position. 🔍  Plus, it's a win-win situation for both the employer and the employee, as it gives the candidate a chance to showcase their abilities and see if the job is a good fit for them. My company, Hire4Me, offers "try before you buy" as part of our recruitment process. If you're looking for top talent, schedule a call with us today and let us help you find the perfect candidate for your team. 🚀

Never underestimate the importance of having a strong onboarding plan with new hires. If you don't set them up well in their first 14 days, you can always pinpoint any performance issues to dropping the ball initially. Set them up for success by focusing on the right onboarding plan.

These are the most important characteristics needed to be a successful remote worker ... Hiring someone to join your team can be scary, primarily if it hasn't worked out so well. I get it. I've hired hundreds of people throughout my career. Some work out, and some don't. Hiring and onboarding someone to join your team who will work remotely may be scary for you. When I hire someone who will be working remotely, I prioritize looking for these traits. They must have excellent communication skills. They must be transparent. They must be honest. Trust is a significant factor when it comes to managing anyone remotely. If you have it, great, but you may question what someone is doing if you don't.
