At Food Cycle Science, we are thrilled to see the National Strategy for Reducing Food Loss and Waste and Recycling Organics announced at the 2024 ReFED Food Waste Solutions Summit, at which we are a proud sponsor. This comprehensive strategy reflects many of the points we emphasized in our formal comments submitted earlier this year. We are particularly encouraged by the EPA’s commitment to “enhance support to advance de-centralized (i.e., community-scale, on-farm and home composting) organics recycling” and to “evaluate the environmental performance of in-home food waste management technologies.” These initiatives align perfectly with our mission to promote innovative, science-backed solutions for reducing food waste at every level of the community. Secretary of Agriculture Thomas Vilsack just announced the National Strategy for Reducing Food Loss and Waste and Recycling Organics at the opening mainstage of the 2024 ReFED Food Waste Solutions Summit. As Secretary Vilsack said, “This is an issue that ought to bring all of us together.” Reducing #FoodWaste is about more than the #environmental and economic benefits. It’s about fostering a culture of #community. #FoodLossAndWaste reduction will not only shape the #FoodSystem — it will shape the country’s approach to problem solving. We’re thrilled to announce that Power Sustainable Lios has invested in Food Cycle Science (FCS)! #Foodwaste is a huge problem. It’s expensive and messy to manage, and when sent to the #landfill, it emits greenhouse gases. FCS is on a mission to fix all of that. They design and deliver waste solutions that enable individuals, businesses, and communities to manage their food waste conveniently and sustainably. These solutions are both cost-effective and user-friendly, using energy-efficient technology to process food waste in homes in a manner that eliminates odours and reduces volume by up to 90%. This essential infrastructure can decrease food waste emissions by more than 75% while complementing existing systems like municipal composting and anaerobic digestion programs. To date, FCS has delivered over 250,000 units that are in use in over 20 countries. Today’s investment will provide FCS with strong institutional backing to support their continued growth in Canada and internationally.
