"I [learned] valuable knowledge about coffee cultivation. Together with my family, I can improve our coffee production—our main source of income.” Ana, along with 100 other coffee farming families in Guatemala, joined the "Better Coffee, Better Lives" program. The program empowered them to improve coffee production, take control of their coffee sales, and diversify their income. These farmers are regularly supported and encouraged by FH Guatemala staff as they learn to use new and improved agricultural practices. After three years of journeying together, five farming groups connected with a local coffee co-op to secure fairer prices for their beans. Thanks to your generosity, Ana's family can now make a stable income! #BetterCoffeeBetterLives #GuatemalaCoffee #SustainableAgriculture #EmpowerCoffeeGrowers #CoffeeFarmers #HopeForTheFuture

About us
FH Canada, part of the global Food for the Hungry (FH) network, is a registered non-governmental organization dedicated to sustainable development and emergency response among the world's most vulnerable. Often found far outside city limits, FH Canada works where there is little or no current development programming. Their integrated holistic strategy provides attention to education, health, agriculture, leadership development, environmental sustainability and gender equality. FH Canada walks alongside community and family leaders – a significant distinctive in global development. Instead of asking communities what they need, FH Canada asks them what they already have and helps them to develop their own visions of sustainability, providing notable dignity and respect for local leadership.

Starting a successful career can be challenging for any young person. In Uganda, youth account for 60 per cent of the unemployed population. When they can secure a job, they face barriers negotiating wages, holding bank accounts, accessing land, learning technical skills, and receiving financing for start-ups. That's why FH Uganda started an initiative to provide business training for youth called the Youth Initiatives for Empowerment and Livelihoods Development (YIELD). Fifty young people participated in this 12-month program, gaining opportunities and skills to build businesses together. Richard started a poultry business and gained his community's respect as an upcoming entrepreneur. Emma began a general store to serve his community. Sarah started a restaurant and second hand clothing business. "From being an idle and disorderly youth in my community, I have become an entrepreneur!" Emma beams. Now these young people have ambitions and the skills to pursue brighter futures! This #WorldYouthSkillsDay, what valuable insights would you want to share with a young person starting their career? Good news from Uganda! This year, FH Uganda organized a health outreach to educate pregnant mothers on hygiene and the benefits of delivering at clinics. Expecting mothers learned that maternal and infant survival rates increase when delivery takes place in a health facility. The result? More mothers are visiting the new maternity ward. In fact, there has been a 320% increase in the number of infants delivered at the new maternity ward! Thanks to the dedication of FH Uganda staff and community volunteers, the health and wellbeing of mothers and babies in Bukiende is improving! #UgandaHealth #MaternalHealth #HealthyBabies #MaternityCare #SafeMotherhood #HealthEducation #MaternityWard

Education is about more than escaping material poverty. Education plays an important role in increasing quality of life, reducing gender inequalities, and fostering more peaceful communities.
