When doing contents work, there are a few do’s and don’ts to follow when conducting yourself on the job. Barb Jackson, CR, Owner of Total Contentz, breaks down these 3 things to keep top-of-mind on-site: ✅ DO: Be there for the homeowner. They’ve just experienced something awful, & showing them some kindness can really mean a lot. ❌ DON’T: Be indifferent & ignore their emotions. You don’t want to start this job on the wrong foot! ✅ DO: Present yourself professionally on the job. This includes grooming, dress code, attitude, & demeanor. You’re wanting to come across as both caring & committed to the work. ❌ DON’T: Display a negative attitude & use closed-off body language. This might make you appear disinterested & unapproachable. ✅ DO: Keep their home a judgement-free zone. You’ll see everything in this line of work, including their lifestyle, personal interests, & belongings. Again, keep it professional! ❌ DON’T: Be making comments & snide remarks when in their home. Most homes have some type of security camera, & they could be watching & listening to everything. Did you know that you should be cleaning before turning on any air moving devices? 🫧 The S500 did a statement of interpretation regarding air scrubbing and cleaning — not necessarily stating that you get to charge for an air scrubber on every job, but rather that you should be cleaning first for the jobs that do have one. Josh Miller, CR, CFE from Rainbow Restoration really hits the nail on the head when it comes to deciding whether or not to respond to the next CAT event. When ensuring that it makes sense for your restoration business, Josh asks that you consider the following two questions first: 📊 Does it fit into your business plan? 🚛 Do you have a job to actually go do? If you don’t consider these questions ahead of time, you might just be tossing money away without any real hope of getting it back.
