About Cassandra: I'm artistic by nature, and use empathy as a guide for design. I'm passionate about using art and advertising to advocate for disadvantaged groups. Outside of work, I'm a a self-proclaimed foodie, and I love trying out new activities in my city! What makes her super-cool at eeva?: The COVID-19 pandemic inspired me to begin my freelancing design career... and now I'm kickin' it in startup land! I also grew a meme page to 30k+ followers in 6th grade, and I'm a recent graduate of the only program of its kind in North America, studying the Creative Industries. Summer conferences, baby! ☀🔥 Our time at Startupfest last week in Montreal was, of course, GLORIOUS. Check out some eeva highlights from the event: 🎤 Adrienne pitched eeva TWICE, for the Best of the Fest and Women in Tech awards. Our eeva-ngelizing queen! 🧠 Jarrod hosted TWO popular braindate sessions, all about sales and fundraising without a product. The Inside scoop: every Uber driver could be an opportunity ;) 💪 Sarah, our Operations Superstar, did an amazing job pitching to the panel of Grandmothers! 📲 Our Marketing Wizard Bry amped up the fun factor, challenging attendees to see if they’re faster at finding home-life deets than eeva (spoiler alert: they're not) 🗣 We attended some super insightful talks, and spoke with over 100 people about eeva, startup life, the weather, and all the other good stuff! Are you a betting man? A new BCG study came out confirming that women-owned start-ups are a better financial bet. And not just by a little. Despite receiving less funding than their male counterparts (what else is new? 🙄), women-led businesses generate more revenue over time. For every dollar invested, they return 78 cents compared to just 31 cents from male-led startups. Yet, the investment gap is still huge. Women receive an average of $935K compared to $2.1M (!!!) for their male counterparts. 😡 And unfortunately, this will come as no surprise to any female entrepreneur I've crossed paths with. I'm still personally seeing VC firms and investors with obvious inherent biases in funding decisions and not enough being done to close the gap. But it seems to me like it's not that complicated. Put more women in investment decision-making roles. Focus on asking female founders the same promotive questions rather than preventive. And ask yourself if you are actually doing anything meaningful to close the gap. Did you know that I injured myself pretty severely a couple of months ago? 🤕 It's been a rough recovery, but throughout it all, relying on biometric data has allowed me to navigate a difficult time feeling informed and aware of the signals my body has been throwing at me. 🧘♀️ It will not come as a surprise to anyone to know that my stress and activity levels are very much interconnected. Isn't that the case for everyone? But have you always just assumed it, or have you put that to the test? And more importantly, what have you done with whatever insights came from it?
