Over 25,000 tonnes of packaged food ended up in Nova Scotia’s landfills in 2023. When food (even packaged food) ends up in the landfill it releases harmful methane gas, which is a key contributor to climate change. Luckily, Nova Scotia has excellent composting programs that turn our food scraps and other organics into valuable resources. Think before you throw. In 2023, Divert NS conducted a province-wide landfill audit to better understand the waste in Nova Scotia’s landfills. The waste audit report is now available to download and shows that over half of what's in Nova Scotia's landfills could have been recycled or composted in most municipalities. The results from the waste audit enable Divert NS and the waste management sector to develop targeted waste reduction strategies and identify opportunities for resource recovery. Yesterday Divert NS hosted our Annual General Meeting and we are now pleased to share our 2023-2024 Divert NS Annual Report and a message from our CEO: "Can you imagine a world where nothing goes to waste? For us at Divert Nova Scotia, it’s something we think about a lot and it’s why we remain so focused on the values of the circular economy. In a circular economy, resources are kept in use for as long as possible and products are made with end-of-life in mind. At Divert NS, we see a future where our finite and precious resources are regenerated, never to become waste. Our past year is a powerful reminder that we are living and championing the values of the circular economy.” Read the full 2023-2024 Annual Report now: https://lnkd.in/gqYv8npz #DivertNS #NothingWasted
