The Public Libraries of Saginaw and the Great Lakes Odyssey feature a roundtable on the past and present conditions of public transportation in the Great Lakes state with an eye to the future. When: August 7, 2024, 7:00 PM - 8:20 PM Where: Zauel Public Library, Saginaw, MI Why: "Investment in a robust multi-modal transportation system for Michigan can be a catalyst to transform our auto-centric system into a contemporary, resilient, and accessible means for getting EVERYONE where they need to go. However, a regional approach, based on sound planning and long-term financial commitment by the state will be required to make it happen. To regain a competitive edge and attract both business and talent to the state while maintaining existing residents, a modern and connected system of moving people and goods is required." Andrea Brown, Executive Director, Michigan Planning Association. "Interesting conversation to be part of--sounds like an excellent opportunity for rich, place-based experience for students to engage with in the community and explore the careers that will make these decisions a reality." Megan Schrauben, MISTEM Executive Director. "Looking forward to this! Breaking the chokehold cars have on infrastructure would and will benefit everyone. As well as improving the existing transit; if I wanted to get back to the EAST side of the state by train how does it make sense I'd have to go WEST to Chicago first??" Rachele Cates, Biologist, Point Blue, MI. "In the midst of unrelenting record high temperatures globally, statistics show--in spite of the pressing need of transformative change---the US auto market is cornered by bulky pick up trucks and SUVs. Tom Leonard, Great Lakes Odyssey Zoom live digital link to 8/7 roundtable: https://lnkd.in/gjdWArZE Agenda: ---Roundtable Moderator, Megan Owens.
