Are you curious about what's happening on the corner of Seymour and 4th? This is the future home of the proposed Kamloops Centre for the Arts (KCA). The Kamloops Centre for the Arts is not just a vision; it's a necessity. Born out of strategic planning and the generous heart of local philanthropy, this centre is poised to address the gap we've faced for nearly two decades. This Facility will offer diverse programming and usage by community groups, including supporting the Tournament Capital program by providing non-competition space for awards ceremonies, cultural celebrations, and related events. On July 29th, join us for the Celebration of the Arts, an open-air gathering at the site of the future KCA and a chance to celebrate local arts and culture organizations and the wide range of future opportunities at this flagship facility. #BuildKamloops | kamloops.ca/COTA

What is an Alternative Approval Process (or AAP)? Council has decided to use an Alternative Approval Process (or AAP) to gauge electorate approval for the borrowing required for the Build Kamloops program - so what does that mean? An AAP is a faster, more cost-effective alternative to a referendum. It works like a petition instead of an election, meaning only those residents opposed to the long-term borrowing proposal need to take action. If you’re happy and you know it, no action is required! The City is currently waiting on provincial approval of the borrowing bylaw. Once it’s approved, residents will have 30 days to submit an Elector Response Form to City Hall if they oppose the borrowing proposal. If more than 10% of eligible electors submit forms, the borrowing cannot proceed without a referendum. Subscribe to “Statutory Public Notices” at Kamloops.ca/Subscribe to be notified of the 30-day response window. This is anticipated to start mid-August. To learn more about the AAP process and the program, visit the Build Kamloops page: https://lnkd.in/g8v24Z_N #BuildKamloops

The grand reopening of St. Andrew’s on the Square is still a way out as the City works closely with our insurance adjuster to determine an overall restoration timeline. Since the fire in May, work has been underway to assess the damage. The first steps have been to clean up and ensure the building is structurally sound through a process that maintains the safety of all personnel entering the building. As with most situations involving insurance, it takes time to completely assess the damage, obtain quotes and approvals, and determine the best path forward. St. Andrew’s on the Square is an important piece of Kamloops history, treasured by many in the community. The City is dedicated to restoring and reopening this cherished building to the community. We will continue to provide updates on our progress.
