Ontario's beverage container recycling rate is too low. The decision by the Ontario Government to cancel the Deposit-Return System (DRS) working group is a setback for the people of Ontario. Introducing a DRS is a proven way to bring the recycling rate up, keep beverage containers in the circular economy, and protect our environment. Watch the video below to hear what CBA President, Krista Scaldwell, had to say about this on BNN Bloomberg last night.

Recycling is key to keeping beverage containers in the circular economy and out of the environment. Canada has different recycling programs across the country including 10 deposit return systems and 2 Blue Box programs - each with their own reporting and financial requirements. Canada has an opportunity to become a global leader through a national framework that would improve container recycling rates, leverage our scale, and streamline recycling. By taking a collaborative and coordinated approach, provinces in Canada can lead the development of a robust and sustainable national recycling strategy that addresses the environmental challenges associated with waste management. Odds are your beverage was bottled right here in Canada making a cold drink the perfect pair for your Canada Day celebrations 🇨🇦 Once you're done, recycle your beverage container at home or on the go. Used plastic beverage containers are recycled mostly in domestic facilities into either new plastic bottles or new pellets. This ensures that valuable materials like PET stay in the circular economy and out of our environment. Learn more about recycling in Canada at MadeToBeRemade.ca Happy Canada Day!
