Healing through happiness for kids and families affected by childhood cancer.

About us

CAMPFIRE CIRCLE has offered healing through happiness for thousands of kids and families affected by childhood cancer since 1983. It’s where kids can be kids, and families can be families—engaging in camp-inspired community, in-hospital, and overnight camp programs, at no cost to them. As a privately funded organization, CAMPFIRE CIRCLE makes thousands of life-changing experiences possible for Campers throughout the year, all across Ontario. Camp Ooch & Camp Trillium merged in 2020, and announced a new name in January 2022. We aren’t changing what we do—we’re just changing our name. We express our deepest gratitude to our departing Board members for their incredible contributions. Derek Cardy, Andrea Metrick and Mark Redmond collectively served the organization on the Board for 30 years! This is a testament to the amazing dedication of our Board members. Derek is a camper parent, so in addition to his business expertise as Founder at DCF Capital Partners, he shared valuable insights about our programs from a family perspective. Andrea provided exceptional leadership in regards to board governance, and also played a key role in developing our corporate partnership with RBC. Mark is a longtime supporter of our organization and helped lead the redevelopment of our fully accessible Muskoka camp. We also recognize the incredible support of Sirius XM, where he serves as President and CEO. As we say at camp, we are proud of you!

Today, we are celebrating our longtime partnership with Mantella Corporation and Sylvia Mantella’s appointment to our CEO’s Strategic Advisory Council. Since visiting Campfire Circle Muskoka in 2018 Sylvia has been an advisor and advocate, helping us to reach more kids and keep camp free for families. From chairing multiple galas, to helping imagine a virtual event during the pandemic, her counsel has helped significantly grow our strategic events and marketing programs. She’s also taken time to host special virtual safaris at her wildlife sanctuary for campers. We are grateful to count Sylvia a champion and friend of camp!

At Campfire Circle, we believe in fostering the fun of childhood and bringing that vibrant energy to our work every day. Recently, our Toronto staff celebrated Be a Kid Again Day, engaging in creative activities like making friendship bracelets, crafting with clay, and a lively scavenger hunt. 🧩✨ Just a little reminder of the importance of bringing back the joy and laughter of childhood! #BeAKidAgainDay

Last month, we were thrilled to welcome kids to our Muskoka camp for a fun-filled day with our partners, Camp Jumoke and Camp Oki. Kids and families bonded over music, archery, woodshop, and games – just some of the activities camp has to offer. It was a day full of unforgettable memories and new friendships!

This spring, we hosted an unforgettable Weekend at Camp (WAC) for our Teen Leadership program! Teens from the Campfire Circle community gathered to learn leadership techniques, discover new things about themselves, and build lasting friendships. One cabin group stood out – the self-proclaimed “6 Odd Guys.” The name was born during a team challenge, quickly gaining unanimous support. The “6 Odd Guys” joined a long list of iconic camp team names spanning over 40 years. A highlight was Felix’s epic 8-minute heavy metal performance, with the entire camp cheering him on and asking for autographs. Here’s to a great teen program and to the “6 Odd Guys”!
