Get to know Pasquale Petrella, Lead Spacecraft Engineer, through our #FacesOfCalian series. Pasquale joined SED Systems, now Calian, in 2005. As a Lead Spacecraft Engineer, he provides technical leadership and coordination for satellite operations, ensuring they stay healthy and can perform well beyond their expected lifecycle. Pasquale has played a pivotal role in four separate spacecraft launches! In June, Pasquale embarked on a bike ride across Canada to raise money and awareness for cancer care. Beginning in Vancouver, his journey will cover 5,800 km and three months before arriving in Halifax. The #CalianTeam wishes him a safe and strong journey! Calian extends its congratulations to Lieutenant-General (LGen) Jennie Carignan, Canada's next Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS). LGen Carignan has served Canada at home and abroad with domestic deployments for disaster relief, and overseas deployments to Bosnia, Afghanistan, Syria and Iraq. She will be the first woman to lead the CAF, and will officially take over as CDS later this month. Last week, members of the #CalianTeam were thrilled to attend the Igniting the Spirit Gala, held at the Wabano Centre for Aboriginal Health, an award-winning health and cultural centre in Vanier, serving Indigenous people of every background, including First Nations, Inuit and Métis. The night included a riveting cultural presentation, including traditional drumming, dancing, and singing, centred on the theme “Drum: The Heartbeat of Mother Earth”. Calian CEO, Kevin Ford was the Gala's Committee co-chair for the event. When asked his opinion of the gala and the performances, Kevin said simply, “holy moly. Wow!”.
