Professional Driver Named TCA Highway Angel for Helping Crash Victims in Fatal Accident TCA has named professional driver Darrin Gillmore a TCA Highway Angel for stopping to help and rescue several passengers from a fatal, multi-vehicle accident. The accident took place at the corner of Hwy 606 and Hwy 1 near Sintaluta, Saskatchewan and this is Darrin’s second TCA Highway Angel Award. Gillmore and his trainee driver came upon a two-car accident and quickly jumped to action. Gillmore grabbed a fire extinguisher, bolt cutters and a first aid kit from his truck and then then two men cut the horn on one car and cut the battery to prevent a fire. Then, they helped remove a male driver from the wreckage, handling him as gently as possible, since they suspected a neck injury. There was also a teenage boy in the accident, who had been traveling with his now-deceased grandmother. “We tried to keep the kid calm—obviously he knew his grandma was dead,” Gillmore said. The men helped him out of his vehicle and tried to keep him calm and assess his injuries. “We comforted him until the EMS showed up and they took over from there,” he said.
